The Platform - Netflix movie

Watched a recently released movie on Netflix called the Platform. It is a psychological thriller Spanish film.

A man wakes up and he is in a concrete cell with frosted windows, but it is uncertain if it is natural light or artificial light. He has an older man which is apparently his cell mate.

There is a rectangular hole in the floor and the ceiling, each about 5’ x 10’. They are in the “hole” and are on level 48. There are 47 levels above them and unknown number of levels below them. Each level has two people on it. At unknown timings every day a platform descends and stops at each level. The 5x10 platform is covered with food. It only stops for a short period of time. So as it descends, the only food available is what has not been eaten by those above. So the lower you are, the less food is available.

The prisoners stay at their level for one month, they are gassed and put to sleep and then wake on their new level, which appears to be randomly determined, together with their cell mate.

Interesting commentary on sharing or not sharing vital resources to keep you and others alive.

Yeah, I thought this was quite good. Creative little allegory. It didn’t occur to me that the timing was unknown actually, I just assumed it was on a regular daily schedule. But now that you mention it I can’t remember any evidence supporting my position.

I thought it was a good movie and a good metaphor for why the working class can’t form solidarity against the ownership class. I assume thats what they were going for (and the kid represented the future).

The only way solidarity happened was via threats and violence. Appealing to people’s selflessness was a waste of time.

God I thought this movie was awful. Could have been the English dub but the acting was terrible and the story was a bore.
