The Point Of A Bottle-Collection Box Is To Collect Bottles!

So, this is not quite Pit-worthy, but geez it’s annoying.

I’m currently in need of a lot of glass containers, for a project for my daughter’s school fete. As it happens, my workplace provides free juice, in bottles which would be ideal for the purpose.

So I get permission from the Office Manager, put a box in the kitchen with a big sign saying “Juice Bottles For Re-use Please”, and send round a mail asking my office-mates for their help.

On Monday and Tuesday, I collect bottles.

I only work two days a week, but I leave the box there, thinking I’ll get a good haul on Monday morning when I come in.

On Monday, the box has disappeared.

:smack:

Ok, that’s annoying, but I can see how this would happen. I put another box in the same place, with an extra note at the bottom saying “please don’t throw me out”. On Monday and Tuesday, I collect bottles.

So I come in this morning, hoping for a good haul again.

The cleaners have obeyed my sign. They did not throw out the box.

They just emptied it of every single bottle which had been put in there and threw THOSE out!

:smack::smack::smack:

time for another visit to the office manager…

Before you go home each day, transfer the bottles to another box and store it under your desk, or in a cupboard or something, where the cleaners won’t see it.

Cunctator, good idea, but she says in the OP she’s only there two days a week.

I think you need to be more explicit. Put a sign on the box that says, “Custodial staff: Please don’t throw out the glass bottles in this box.” If necessary (and appropriate to your office environment), add “I’m saving them for my daughter’s school project.”

Is there a coworker who can stash them somewhere for you?

Around here, you gotta say it in Spanish:

Por favor, no disponen. Las botellas no son basura

(Please do not take. Bottles are not trash)

Yeah, my current sign says “Please do not remove. Box being emptied regularly.” Which I would have thought would have been enough of a clue. But clearly I need to be even more explicit and use Very Simple Words.

“Please Do Not Remove The Box And Also Please Do Not Remove The Stuff Inside The Box”

I mean, I was moderately prepared for the probability that they would ignore/fail to see the sign and toss the box as before. But who the hell sees the sign, follows it (since they clearly did - the box is still there after all) and tosses the contents? Why TF did they think there was a request on it to not get rid of it? Because it was pretty or something?
