Truly, you haven’t lived until you’ve heard ‘Message in a Bottle’ on the lute (I have, and it was decent).
One of the best concerts I ever saw was their gig at the Cow Palace in '82. The show opened …a darkened arena, the crowd roaring, and “Voices Inside My Head” thumping away on the PA. What a show. I saw Sting in concert years later, doing the setlist from “Bring on The Night”. One of the most charismatic performers I’ve ever seen. (Not that Andy or Stewart are slouches by any means…)
If The Police tour again, I hope that I can afford tickets.
Oh yeah. That would be f***in’ awesome.
I think a Smiths reunion is somewhere south of impossible, but I don’t think it’s out of the question that we might see Morrissey and Marr together. They seem to genuinely like each other again. Both gents have been very complimentary of one another as of late. But Johnny’s gone and joined Modest Mouse, so who knows how long that will last?
I’d settle for a Sumner/Marr reunion and doing Electronic again. That looks possible as well.
Your ideas intrigue me. Got a link anywhere so I can hear a bit?
Pride or not, “Mother” (Why is it that everyone I go out becomes my mother in the end?) on “Synchronicity” should have been chucked. I have nothing against Stewart or Copeland, but they just didn’t have the same writing chops as Sting.
Marr has officially joined the Portland band Modest Mouse (“Float On”) and they are coming out with a new album - if that sells, he will be happy with that. If it doesn’t, who knows?
I read that a while back, and while all I know from Modest Mouse IS “Float On,” I’ll be more inclined to give them a chance now. But I don’t mean to derail the Police thread… I like the Police too, and just wonder how long the reunion will last.
Yeah, Mother is a head-scratcher. Instrumentally it has one of the more amazing Summers solos, though. Andy wrote a track called “Someone To Talk To” that ended as a B-side, that I think would have been a better song for the album.
Stewart’s contribution, “Miss Gradenko,” is a winner, though. He also wrote “Darkness” on Ghosts in the Machine and “Bombs Away” on Zenyatta Mondatta, as well as “Does Everyone Stare,” “On Any Other Day,” and “Contact” on Reggatta de Blanc. All winners. Sting definitely had the pop hook thing down pat, but Stew was pretty sharp - check out his work as Klark Kent.
