I guess this could have been a Pit rant, but I don’t usually go there. What a day!
I’ve been wanting to drill this play since I conceived its potential rewards, post our first exploratory well there in 1989. I proposed it in my first week with my new employer a year ago, and we had to watch the mineral lease. Word from on top was that rigs are tight enough that we were commanded to pull the trigger on a top lease whenever one came up 90 days out.
We were cagey and waited until 6 weeks out (against management wisdom) and have now discovered that 6 weeks is not enough time to get a rig, but is ample time to be outbid on a new lease.
ARGHHH!!!
Although we’d been authorized for the heaviest acreage expenditure of my career, the competition out weaseled us and we lost out. End of the day news. Hell of a way to end a Monday.
And it’s gonna hit. I rarely say that about a wildcat up front, but I just know it’s going to be a slam-bang (and don’t think these adversaries are unknown quantities - we go back a l-o-n-g way).
Fine.
So, great way to end a Monday. Except…
I get home and realize I had Jury Duty today. *#@%$!!!
How did I forget that!?! Oh well, I’ll call first thing in the morning and find out where to turn myself in.
Sheesh…
