My favorite bit of ‘modern arrogance’ was when the remake came out and the reviewer said “They get right to the disaster! Modern viewing audiences would never wait 45 minutes for the wave to hit! This version is much better!”…this was right around the time Pearl Harbor had been released.
I think it loses something on the small screen. You really need a big movie screen. The part where the ship overturns was one of the special-effects marvels up to that time and looked impessive in the theater.
There was another one around the same time called “Krakatoa East of Java” and it had lava. I remember being pretty impressed with that one, too. Ah, those were the days. ![]()
I remember that movie on TV when I was a kid, however Krakatoa is in reality West of Java.
