The Power went out, get used to it.

Okay, around here, the power goes out quite frequently. It just went out about 2 minutes ago, and the last time since then, it was probably 3 or 4 days ago. It doesn’t stay off for any length of time, it just goes off then comes back on again. This has happening for a while because we live in a rather backwaters area. I’ve gotten used to it, but my dad hasn’t.

Every time it happens he screams it at the top of his lungs so we all know it.

You know what, dad, it happens, get used to it. And, it is not the communists’ fault either (we live in Saskatchewan). The same thing would happen over in the places in Alberta where there’s only one power line leading to the town!

BTW: Is it possible that this isn’t failing power lines, maybe something going on specific to our house. We do use a lot of power. I’ve never discussed any of this before with other people in town, I keep forgetting to, I’ll start polling later.

It would be just great if this is something we could fix ourselves.

We get flickers a couple times a day, sometimes. Atlanta, GA, USA.

Gjorp,
Some quick points about this.
On distribution lines, especially ones in remote areas there is equipment that detects problems and then shuts down the circuit for a brief period. This happens because a tree limb or other object gets in the power line. The spark created by this “fault” will sustain itself even if the branch burns up. The only way to clear the fault is for the power to be turned off. Typically the object will then fall away and the circuit will then be OK to turn back on.

This all happens without the power company knowing it. If you don’t tell them that you are experiencing periodic outages it may take them a while to discover it on their own.

The problem may be as simple as them finding the problem (tree branch) and fixing it (sawing off the tree branch)

If you are telling them and they aren’t helping then threaten to turn them into the Crown. Sometimes that motivated them.

Bubba

When he starts screaming, scream back and get the rest of the family to join in  So immature! But youd be suprised by how it may work
