If the Senate isn’t in session he can appoint whoever he wants and they’ll last until a new Congress convenes. Effective this January that means until a few days before Bush leaves office. The same would also apply if the Senate was destroyed on the theory that it’s destruction is tantamount to adjournment. Of course if Bush arranges that then it’s time for another civil war .
I join you in inviting any and all to kiss my not-so-big, black motherfucking ass, too.
What does this have to do with the “matter at hand”?
You are angry that people are automatically 100% against Bush on the unitary executive issue. That’s the “matter at hand”. We’re not discussing Iraq.
What? You think that it’s quite all right for Bush to make this power grab? That it’s fine and dandy that he has fought for the right to spy on people and then give himself the power to cover it up if he does anything illegal? This does not warrent a pit thread? Or is your pansy-ass upset because I called you an idiot?
There’s nothing knee-jerk about this thread or any other Bush pit thread I started. It is not the man I’ve attacked but his policies. Do you want to comment on his policies?
No, you don’t. You just want to call me a knee-jerk. It seems to me you are taking this tact because you don’t have any kind of defense for this shit. Either put up or shut up, asshole.
If Big Girl were to vanish tomorrow, there would most likely still be just as many of those threads it pleases you to call “Bush-bashing”. The reason for this is so blindingly obvious I can trust you to grasp it without further help.
Probably not quite it.
Look at replies 8,9 & 10. Then review the profanity-laden Biggirl replies that
followed.
Yeah, that’s it.
You know, there’s not enough outrage in this country. Or the outrage is directed at things that do not directly affect how this country is run. Sure, a congresscritter writing nasty IMs to underaged boys is sexy but, in the scheme of things, it doesn’t matter. Not in how this country is run and is being run down. Not to the fundamental principles of what we as a nation are supposed to stand for.
No, instead of outrage we get people pandering to the assholes who want to squash the noise. There’s no such thing as righteous indignation anymore, it’s just Bush-Bashing.
It’s not that it’s wrong for the President to hide from our lawmakers what it is he’s doing, it’s that I hate Bush. It’s not that he can’t be trusted with his new right to edit because he has lied to us in the past, it’s that I hate Bush. It’s not that Lord Ash or Random have anything to say about what it is I’m outraged about, it’s that I’m the new Reeder.
Again I say to you both. Kiss my big, black ass.
Yeah, sure, but you see those words there? “You are angry that people are automatically 100% against Bush…”. I don’t really think that Ms. Big is upset with those of us who are “100% against Bush”. I imagine she might be rather comfortable with someone who was “100% against Bush”.
Can’t break it down much more than that.
Okay, you got me.
As you’re obviously aware, that “are” should have been an “aren’t”.
My point (which I had previously made using other words) is that Biggirl is upset at anyone who defends any part of any action taken by Bush.
After all, he was wrong about something else! And he’s evil!
Well, then, a simple experiment will suffice. Simply come up with a Bush action you might reasonable expect her to agree with, and see if she does. That isn’t as easy as it sounds, its like picking a sapphire out of a cow paddy with chopsticks, but I’ll give it a shot…
I support The Man Who Fell Up in his efforts to assure that some reasonable guest worker program is included in any “immigration reform”, a position he has so far clung to in the face of strident disapproval from the Sacred Base. I think he’s right about that, so far as it goes, and support him on it. If I am not being too presumptious, I imagine she does as well.
Big Girl?
Y’know, if Bush wasn’t such a goddam motherfucking EVIL sonofabitch, maybe we wouldn’t HAVE to keep calling the bastid down for it all the time. But it seems like EVERY FUCKING DAY he’s up to some evil shit, and it just keeps getting EVILLER. Maybe if he decides to return to the company of civilized decent human beings, we’ll call him an evil motherfucker a tad less often. Yes, I rather think we would. But I’m not holding my breath waiting for the goddam scum-sucking toad felcher to do that anytime soon. So I rather think we will continue to call him the evil fucker he is.
Where did I call Bush ‘evil’? In the OP? Lemme check. . . nope. In any other thread I started about his policies? Let’s search. . .Nope.
What I did say is that anyone who defends this abuse of power is an asshole and I started this in the Pit to reserve the right to call them that. And YOU jumped in here and said I was mindlessly partisan because I do not liking this signing statement. Also, taking Bush’s past actions into account while judging the merits of this signing statement makes me a Bush-basher.
The matter at hand is this President’s need to hide what it is he’s doing from both the House and Congress. The fact that he has lied before figures into why this is bullshit.
Just because you don’t know enough to see how this is fucked up isn’t my problem, it’s yours.
I’ve really got to agree that whatever ‘checks and balances’ were meant to be in place in the U.S. system of government aren’t really working. Your president seems to have more than one way to neatly sidestep anything inconvenient to the point that I’ve noticed some of the die-hard, one-party, “can do no wrong” types (including some on this board) are starting to admit Bush isn’t the bees knees.
'course I get my news about the 'states in equal doses from the CBC, Google News, and the Daily Show, so take that as you may.
In what universe can a requirement that the director of FEMA have experience and knowledge, rule out, a large portion of those persons best qualified by experience and knowledge to fill the office?
My brain hurts now :smack: !
CMC fnord!
My nomination for an unassailably good act performed by the man.
Having trouble thinking of another one. But that one is definitely solid. Unless there’s some hidden dark side I’m not aware of…
That’s probably where Dick Cheney’s Secret Lair and prison/interrogation center is.
and it’s filled with sharks with frickin’ laser beams attached to their heads & ill tempered mutant sea bass.
CMC fnord!
Not to mention the giant clams.
That’s cool!
I’d also like to point out that I agreed with Bush on the Dubai port deal. Not so much that our ports are run by forgein interests but that, if they are going to be run by forgein interest, the criteria to use to decide who can’t run them shouldn’t be “I don’t like Middle Easterners.”
Yes, that’s also true; he was right about that, and I was embarrassed by the political hay made from the incident by the Dems.
(Unfortunately Bush’s awareness of the people’s political mood was trumped by his habitual “why are you even questioning my decisions?” arrogance, which caused him to misplay badly the whole situation. There’s no reason the deal shouldn’t have gone through exactly as proposed; the fact that it wound up the way it did is an example of Bush’s standard modus operandi getting turned around and biting him in the ass. That aside, he was still right to take the stand he did.)
