The Presidential Candidate I don't Support is going to Doom us all!

I’d like to take a trip down memory lane, and see articles from the past talking about how Presidential candidates who eventually won the election were going to doom us all. It would be fun to go back through some old Bush hates, Clinton hates, Bush Elder hates, and Reagan hates. Hell if we can get back as far as Carter, Ford, Johnson or Nixon that’d be fun too. Any President is fair game.

How about Reagan’s $90 Billion Blunder on January 6, 1976. Cool article - I especially like the word, slapdash.

I wish I could find you an old article from our Jackson paper about when Clinton won. There was a newspaper columnist who was a staunch Republican to an stereotypical degree. A nice enough man but very very tightly wound.

After Clinton won the election, this columnist wrote a column full of despair and woe. He even related a story about his wife bursting into tears when she was told the news.

I thought “Man - get a grip! It’s not the end of the world”.

Perhaps it’s in their online archives …

Once upon a time, I was listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio before I knew anything about him. This was near then end of Bush Sr.'s term when Clinton was campaigning. Limbaugh goes on and on about how the state of the economy was not Bush Sr.'s fault because the president has very little control over the economy. It’s all driven by exteranl factors that are beyond the presidents control …

About a minute later, he’s ranting about what an enconomic disaster it will be for America if Bill Clinton won the election.

I said to myselff, “Hey, wait a minute. If the president has not control over the economy, how can a different president ruin it?” I didn’t listen to Limbaugh for very long.

Tully that’s funny. NinetyWt, I’d love to read it if you can find it. If you can give me the name of the paper and author, I’ll search the archives. Philosphr Great article thanks. Not quite as doom and gloom as I was seeking. It was a little too uh…sanely written for what I’m looking for, but a great insight into Reagan nonetheless.

I looked but sadly they say the online archives are unavailable at this time. :frowning:
The author was Matt Friedmanand the newspaper is Jackson’s Clarion Ledger.

His blog slogan says “father of four spirited boys and one good-looking girl”. He’s a little odd.

I found a recent opinion piece by Friedman by google - it’s on the American Family Association’s site.

Nixon HAS doomed us all. It’s just taking a while.

I wonder if it’s in this book:

*Matt Friedeman has released a new book: “In the Fight: A Mississippi Conservative Swings Back.” This collection of commentary features a selection of over ninety columns from 1992 to 2001. Bernie Ebbers insults Friedeman. Mike Moore’s son cries because of Friedeman. Kenny Stokes predicts Friedeman will start a war in Jackson. Democrats call him a Republican instrument. Republicans accuse him of losing the 1995 lieutenant governor’s race for the GOP. If you read every column Friedeman has ever written, then you have read most of this book - but not all of it. Each chapter begins with a question and answer session, and an author’s note of explanation leads every column. With chapters titled Mississippi, The Culture Fight, Race, Personalities, The Prolife Cause, Media, Education, Religion, and Personal, readers are able to search through subjects to see if that column they remember so vividly is included. Lemuria at Banner Hall in Jackson will host Matt Friedeman for a Book Signing on Saturday, March 2 at 1:00 p.m. *

Reagan doomed us all by selecting Bush as his running mate. We are still feeling the consequences today.

OK he had all the charisma of a dog catcher and he was “Ethically pragmatic” but as to the actual job he was bloody good at it,unlike Reagan and Carter who were incredibly nice people but not personally very good at the task they’d chosen to take on.
