The pussification of the american male

It’s baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-aaaaaaaaaaaaaack. :frowning:

tomndebb - Bash away, but I’m not Mark Serlin/Sentinel. Maybe it makes it easier to get through the day if you think that anyone who remotely thinks like I do must be the same person. Heaven forbid that there might be more than one sane person. And forget it. There are NO safe ways to question anything said by a woman if you’re a man in a position with power (Real or perceived) over that woman. None. And why do I have to provide figures to back up something I sense. There are enough posters agreeing with THAT part of my OP to prove its value.

Grendel69 - So I got an interesting topic. Thanks. I’ll get better at posing. I’m new at this. As to a reference on the firefighter rules, I saw the article on the front page of the Annapolis Md. daily paper (The Capital) several years ago. I tried to go to their website and get the reference but they wanted money to pull up the article. I also checked the Annapolis Fire Dept website but no reference to gender. I did read it though.

beakerxf - If you burned Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom from your mind so well, why did you mention it twice - without, I might add, mentioning that the sidekick was an asian kid. And in AF-1 the VP was a woman. The Rocky movies are pure drivel. Never should have been filmed. To this day, when I remember that the first one got best picture, I get the willies. Years from now, movie history buffs are going to look back on that as a blot on the industry. And what about Lethal Weapon and sequels. Selectively burned from your mind because they supported my case. And I know there are women who can lift 200 pounds. I’m married to one. I just don’t want someone who can’t trying to pull my ass out of a burning building.

I’ve learned a lesson though. The Pit is a tough place and next time I’ll use both brain cells when I start a thread. That way it’ll be a fair fight.

I think I can answer this for beakerxf. It’s because all “Indy” fans know that the second Indy film sucks the big one. We try to blot it from our memory, it’s a baaaad movie. (I am speaking as a fan who waited in line in front of the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood to see all three films on their opening days. I slept through the “Temple of Doom”. It was bad.) But still, even though it’s bad, we still can’t forget about it - it’s a tough thing, to be an Indiana Jones fan…

Regarding the OP: I do agree, there is a double standard to a certain extent. However, things are not all peachy for women, minorities, or gay people. I guess there is a “backlash” against white men, in certain circumstances. Is it right? No. Is it fair? No. Does it negate the fact that men still make more money than women, and still enjoy many other advantages? No.

i’m quite sure all i did was imagine that i had stepped in some troll shit. Wherever do you presume i am making an accusation?
ah… perhaps you have been pussified, you weak male. poor poor little white man… WAIT!.. here, i will lend you my hand, here now, you are a REAL MAN!

cynical1, ya, the media is the media, since when has anything they’ve portrayed been the truth? And in what instance of any type of racial/sexual prejudice is there never a double standard? There are double standards everywhere. But i hardly think the male role in today’s society is “pussified”. That whole sensitive guy thing is about men just not being pigs and ass holes, and being sensitive. Get it? For entertainment purposes, people like to see bashing of anykind in general. At least the majority polled in any type of sensus most likely done by the entertainment industry  but there is bashing of every kind done through out all the movies and television shows.
The screen has bashed: white men, black men, any type of men, asians, indians, mexicans, women, angels, aliens, dogs, animals in general, insects, the devil, god, moms, dads, winners, losers, nerds, jocks…
it goes on.
People seem to find faults in others (whether factual or not) humorous. Perhaps it’s just become more level now, where white men weren’t being bashed as much before as they are now.
Has this in any way affected your life?
Have you been personally bashed? (other then in the pit, if you post in the pit, you most likely get bashed in the pit)

[self hyjack] :post apocolyptic crowd in background chanting: two man enter, one man leave! [/self hyjack]

Oh come on. You mean to tell me that you haven’t seen a movie with an “average white male” hero in the last bazillion years??? Didja get the channel stuck on BET or Univision or something? Please… Get outside more.

And about the sidekick thing… Obviously you haven’t seen some of the new spins on ethnic “buddy” comedies like “Rush Hour,” “Lethal Weapon,” “48 hours,” or even the upcoming “Rush Hour 2.” Each one is more hilarious than the next, my friend, what with the black sidekick making fun of the fuddy white/asian guy!!

And when the fuck did “9 to 5” become your reference point for all American movies?? You’re really reaching.

You also posted later on that a black or gay person wouldn’t want to switch places with you. Trust me, you do not want to be black OR gay in America. Being a white male, you have a pretty fucking sweet deal and don’t come crying to the rest of us just because you don’t realize it.

Pussy.

/hijack
yosemitebabe - You’re not still falling for the media’s portrayal of “The_women_make_less_than_men” myth are you? I thought the people posting to this board would question blanket statements such as that especially since The Great One himself debunked two similar myths in recent weeks.
According to the US governments own statistics in 1996 women did earn 76 cents for every dollar earned by men but when you adjust for the average man working 2300 hours per year, the average woman working 1700 hours per year, adjust for the overtime and the gap is less than 5 cents per hour. Adjust for hazard pay, manual labor, and the likelyhood of women to choose jobs where skill don’t deteriorate if they take time off to start a family such as teaching and nursing and women make $1.05 for every man’s $1.00 Besides, if women made less than men, why would any company with profit as its goal ever hire a man.

BTW - I do have references for that. http://www.npri.org/issues/issues99/i_b040799.htm and

**

That was a mistake. The first reference was supposed to be Raiders of the Lost Ark. That’s the one that stars Karen Black.
And what about Lethal Weapon and sequels.

Ok, they also starred Danny Glover. What is the big fucking deal? I also selectively forgot the Termintaor films that co-started Linda Hamilton. I also didn’t mention the Alien films because I worried that the thought of a female heroine might send you into convulsions. Can you name any movie that doesn’t involve a sidekick? I doubt it. It’s a common practice to have sidekicks. It’s somebody for the hero to talk to, because it does get boring to watch a hero working on his own. It provides various plots devices…such as the side kick gets kidnapped or if it’s a woman, then romance develops.

Tarzan had Jane. Lone Ranger had Tonto. Green Hornet had Kato. This is not a recent occurance. It also doesn’t demean white men. If anyone is demeaned, its the women an minorities who are often given the job of second banana.

Wait. One minute you’re using Hollywood as the yardstick of society and now you’re going back to reality? Let’s go back to Hollywood for a moment. Is there any black actor or woman who has earned $20 million dollars. Now before you say that there isn’t a black man or woman who has enough successful movie, I’d like to point out that Julia Roberts ranks up there with Tom Cruise and Tom hanks with the number of movies that broke the $100 million mark.
There are NO safe ways to question anything said by a woman if you’re a man in a position with power (Real or perceived) over that woman. None.

I’d say that’s probably been your experience. Judging from your writings here, it’s probably because you say it the wrong way. It is possible to question women. It is possible to question a minority. We’re all supposed to be equal here. Just because you’re too much of a coward to question that woman who made the rape remark is not womenkind’s fault. If you’re so worried about being reduced to a wimp, then next time stand up and be a man and disagree with her. Tell her that it’s unfair to label all men as potential rapists. Reverse discrimination is still discrimination.

BTW beakerxf, it’s Karen Allen, not Karen Black.

Oops. You’re right. I’m always making that mistake.

Women used to be these little meek people that followed behind their man and lord knows don’t ever critize him or say a bad word. Yea, you are right, men-bashing has turned into the fashionable now.

But you know what? It’s only because women now are more independent. They have finally realized they don’t need a man to be complete. Maybe that’s good, maybe not. I also jump on the band-wagon at times on the man-bashing. Not a trait that I must say I’m proud of, usually it comes after a bad day, or when I remember the ex. But you have to admit, men can be just as bad as women. I’ve seen that on this board in equal number.

The Hollywood comparison is poor. Entertainment is based on the number of viewers. Film directors do whatever it takes to sell a movie. Men, women, black, white whatever. Part of that may come from the fact that we don’t have any real heroes anymore in the movie industry.

It’s a different world now, that’s for sure.

It sounds like a Jerry Springer show in here, and I have never seen a real man on a Jerry Springer show. To any woman who insists, “all men are pig’s!” I’ll just say “I’m not” and leave it at that. If you fight fanatically for anything you don’t look like the mature one, you look crazed, insane and wrong. This isn’t a fist fight, you’re trying to change minds and you can’t do it by wailing, “it’s not fair!”…cause you’ll loose. Say what you want cause you still have the power of privilege, and it looks ridiculous that someone in a position of privilege is complaining.

well if you want to make unrealistic comparisons compare bill gates

What universe do you live in? When I have had women reporting to me, they were expected to perform to the same capacity as the men reporting to me. That included taking the criticism that was handed out when it was necessary and being subject to dismissal if it was necessary. I have reprimanded and disciplined and let go people of both sexes and I have never had any of my words or actions come back to give me grief. Now you’re just starting to make things up.

Because, despite your claims, I have not seen any indication of that occuring in the real world or any majority of posters agreeing with that point on this thread.

You don’t have to provide evidence, but as long as you are blowing smoke you look silly.

(And what is this continued claim that you aren’t Serlinel? I haven’t been pushing the idea that you are Serlinel, only that you whine like Serlinel.)

tomndebb:

[…it sounds a lot like Mark Serlin / Sentinel]

:: sniff, sniff ::

Nope. Not MarkSentinel.

Cynical1:

Welcome. Nice ballsy OP to kick things off with. Just remember; down here if someone calls you a yak-felching, inbred, lopsided, knuckle dragging, low down, high smelling, no good, two timing, sidewinding, christless poor excuse for a preschooler’s pimp, that just means good morning.

Regarding the OP, I’ve bounced off this subject once or twice in past Pit-for-alls. I guess you could make some kind of case that bashing white males seems to be much too acceptable these days. I agree that if you take many of the slams about white males and changed the gender or race you would get mobbed by packs of foaming freaks.

However I can’t see where I or any of my white male friends have been damaged by it. Not like it’s affirmative action or any ridiculous horseshit like that. Once in a great while it gets under my skin, but I just shake it off. On a very few occasions I have been annoyed by jabs about my terminal maleness, tight assed whiteness, etc. But if I replay the tapes honestly, without exception the offending person backed off immediately as soon as I stopped laughing. Matter of fact I’ve never once gotten a white joke from a stranger, even before I filled out. I guess that says it all right there. A friend of mine said that’s mainly because white people just aren’t funny. I like that one.

I have run into a few women who think that men are evil. But they don’t seem to confine their opinions to white men; men of any stripe will do. I once got into a chat with a woman who told me that most boy-girl sex acts are rape. (Yikes! …So, nix on dinner tonight?) A very few other conversations have gone this way but not as extreme. All I could think was she must have been treated very badly at some time. Face it, in this case the balance of power is solidly with me. All I have to do to switch it off is get up and walk away. She ain’t getting none of this good stuff, hope she gets over it someday.

And for every one of those, I must have run into a hundred macho dick swinging assholes. Think about it this way; when was the last time you had some jerk pat you on the ass and tell you not to worry your pretty little head? Ever been pinned down and felt up by some ugly broad? When you took your car to the shop with a hole in the muffler, did they try to sell you a tranny rebuild? When was the last time some half drunk shitkicker called you ‘boy’ in a liquor store parking lot? Ever been seated in a cold draft next to the kitchen and really seriously thought it was because of your tan? We all have our demons to pay; I’ll take the stupid ads and feminist sniping any old time.

By the way, there is gathering evidence that men and women on average tend to react to stress and confrontation in fundamentally different ways.

So what? You might not want to mention that to my friend the marine sargeant. She got a gold star in sniper school or whatever they call it; she can put a .223 round through a tin can at 200 yards off hand, lefties or righties through iron sights. The last guy that gave her some lip is still looking for his face.

Looks like just the place for a trailer-trash peckerwood like me to talk plainly without worrying about bruising delicate sensibilities. So Good Afternoon, you yellow eyed needle-dicked pigfucker!! (And thats for agreeing with me!)

Ads directed at women depict men as loveable doofus’ because thats what women think about us (at best). That’s ok, cause we know better. Men don’t think differently from women, we think about different stuff. They fill our gaps, we fill thiers, with varying degrees of enthusiasm.

Some women are turned on by ill-temepered shitasses. They will plow through ten Hugh Granty woosies to hurl themselves upon some nose-picking mouth-breather with bruised knuckles. Why? Goddess only knows, you know any guys who consistently fuck themselve up over HIGH-maintenance bitches with attitude? Sure you do. Its something to do with antlers, territory, musk and tusk. Its not even worth pretending that we understand. And they dont either.

As for the pussification of the American male: well, you are what you eat. Make sure she wakes up smiling, thats the only dependable difference between a loveable doofus and a pathetic loser. Oh, and no matter what shes wearing, it does NOT make her butt look big.

Hey cynical1!

A couple of years ago, the Los Angeles Fire Department released a videotape to the press of female trainees trying to accomplish certain tasks. These trainees failed at the tasks, badly.

The implication was clear. These women cannot do the tasks that the male trainees can do. If we accept these women, we will have to lower our standards!

It was a couple of days after the release that someone asked ‘can we see the tapes of the men doing these tasks?’
Turns out there were no tapes of the men. The men were never asked to do these tasks. The tasks were not LAFD training exercises.

The LAFD (white males, mostly) had been caught using an underhanded trick to turn public opinion against women serving in the fire department.

Sometimes, the stereotype fits.

BTW, the links you provided from aren’t what I would call ‘objective’ sources.

I’m not sure where you came from, but I think I like you already!

Pussification, in my experience, is like radiation. You can only be affected by it from exposure to it. This requires differentiating pussification from wimpification, which is a subtle but essential difference.

White males depicted has henpecked. Oh my god! Call the PC police.

How about being depicted as sub-human with sub-par intelligence and criminal tendencies?
How about being depicted as baby eating, money-grubbing poxes on the earth worthy of extermination?
How about being depicted as chattel to be owned by a superior sex?
How about being depicted as perverted, deviant offenses against God?

Talk about pussified. Crying because T.V. shows white men as doofuses interested in sex. Buck up and be a man. Real men know how to take a joke.

Pussy.
