Last Friday, Scranton began to get the remnants of Ivan. Heavy rain, some wind, flooding, general crappiness. As I stood outside at work, the air smelled odd, almost oceany. Was it my imagination, or is it possible for me to have sensed a fishy, saltwatery smell to the rain we were getting?
Scranton is several hundred miles inland, and cartainly nowhere in the vicinity of the Gulf of Mexico.
I asked my mother in Wilkes-Barre, and she didn’t notice anything. Odd if it was real, though. How’d Scranton weather the storm?
Flooding was very bad all over. Local news coverage, including 2 photo galleries (Scranton Times).
This occurred about 5 blocks from my house.
Cant imagine what Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, etc are going through. At least we have mountains that the water can run off of.
