The rants go Marching one by one (Monthly Mini-Rants)

Thanks, I’ll try that.

Hey, Best Buy, how you doin’?

Listen, when I make an appointment to bring my car in and have stereo equipment installed (equipment that I’m buying from YOU), HAVE THE EQUIPMENT THERE WHEN I ARRIVE! DON’T ASK ME TO COME IN AND PICK IT UP IN ADVANCE!

If my appointment is three weeks out, DON’T HOLD IT IN YOUR FUCKING STORE AND THEN SEND IT BACK TO THE WAREHOUSE A WEEK BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT BECAUSE I DIDN’T COME IN TO PICK IT UP! I TOLD YOU WHEN I PAID FOR THIS THAT I’M NOT GOING TO DO THAT!

I DON’T HAVE STORAGE SPACE FOR THIS SHIT! I EXPECT YOU TO!

“Sorry, we don’t have email here.”

Twice recently, I’ve asked a business to email a document or record, and was told, “We don’t have email here”, or “Oh, I don’t know how to do that.” In both cases they were car repair shops. In one case, I believe him - I was there at his shop and saw him trying to use a computer for something, without much success.

The other place, I’m not sure. Maybe they just can’t be bothered.

Either way… wtf??? In this day and age am I asking too much to have a form emailed to me instead of getting a hard copy in person? Is this common to car repair shops? Anyone running into this elsewhere?

I have a flat-head screwdriver that fits there as well.

I’m known around here as the guy who never has the right tool, but can make do (sometimes with so much connecting this to that, that I get one chance to get things working before my jerry-rigged tool falls apart).

I have officially completely fucked up my sleep cycle. Been crashing when I get off work (so, like, 6 or 7 p.m.) then being up for a while in the middle of the night, and waking again at stupid o’clock in the morning.

Silver lining: I’m somewhat prepared for the upcoming time change.
See, everyone else is re-setting their clocks to match ME!

I tried to find the doodad on my garbage disposal but was unable. I called for the third time and they finally sent somebody over. My kitchen sink is working again.

I logged in to my work computer a few minutes ago. There are no new tips to work on. There are no new e-mails or messages telling us what to do. I suspect I will spend my shift checking for updates and never receiving them.

An update- There are no more tips. Apparently many of my cow orkers were told of a mandatory meeting. In that meeting, they were told today would be their last day of work. I checked my work e-mails and my personal e-mail. I never received a notice about any meeting. Everybody is confused and asking questions the supervisor has already said she cannot answer.

Sounds like there was downsizing (not surprising if they have no work you), and you apparently survived this round? So, congratulations until next week?

Thanks. The current project was supposed to end in April. So, I applied for a new project the company is starting. I thought I should err on the side of caution and gave my two weeks notice to my supervisor a few days ago. It looks like today, I will be paid to check on my e-mails and messages on my work laptop- while watching television and surfing the net on my personal laptop.

You haven’t fucked it up. You are just reverting to a sleep schedule that was the norm throughout several periods in human history. I tried this several years ago for awhile and I liked it. But it is hard to maintain in the modern world.

I have occasional spells of waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to get back to sleep. Being retired my schedule is my own (barring things like doctor appointments and requiring public transit to run errands) and I’ve sometimes thought of getting out of bed during my mid-night bouts of insomnia and doing things around the house. If nothing else it would confuse my cats, who are used to being fed when they wake me up at 7 in the morning.

Another hospital scheduling fuck-up. I had to reschedule yesterday’s cardiology appointment, and the earliest one I could get is in June. No problem, it’s just a check-up.

Today I got a message, saying that my cardiologist can’t make my March 8 appointment, and they’re rescheduling it for late April.

[sigh]

Based on past experience, I’ll show up for the April appt. and be told my appt. is in June, and was never changed.

Worse would be showing up to the April appointment and being asked, “Where the fuck were you March 8th?”

I wouldn’t be surprised.

Well, I have a pile of sad … our tough-as-nails and surly former alley cat that had a stroke a couple of months ago but walked it off like the onery fleabag she is? Well, she had another this afternoon but her whole right side is paralyzed and she can’t walk she still trying to act like nothing is wrong …and other functions are failing but she’s fighting like hell …
Aunt thinks she going to go sometime this weekend if not tonight …but you can’t get close to her because she tries to get up …shes in one of her favorite spots and we closed the door so the other cats won’t bother her and shes pissed off and even more surly since she hates a closed-door …and aunts inconsolable since she’s losing her best friend …but the cats almost 23 years old and we knew this was coming …

it’s just one more thing we didn’t need ATM…

Although it’s cold today, it’s nice and sunny out. Would be great weather to go pick up my mom and go for a drive somewhere.

Except that gas is through the roof. $1.72CDN a liter this weekend. Glad I filled up last week when it was briefly at $1.50, but now I don’t want to waste any in case I really need to drive somewhere.

Once the weather warms up, I think I’m going to get a lot of use out of the ebike I bought last year. I’ll have to buy a backpack big enough for grocery shopping.

I’ve had small patches of eczema over there years. They have been small and manageable. Now I have a major flare up on the top of my foot as well on my eyelid! The eyelid thing irritates the most, first can’t put topical cream on it and if a flake of skin gets in the eyeball, it’s like a boulder floating around!

I’d like to get an electric scooter to commute to work. Wouldn’t be faster, but would save gas and I could take bike trails and stay away from the traffic.

Gas here jumped overnight from $4.99/ gal to $5.09, then four days later jumped overnight to $5.39! (USD) I don’t make enough money to buy an electric care, but it’s looking like I don’t make enough to run a gas car either.

In California, SF bay area.

I work at a private boarding school in Beijing and am teaching 10th graders and 11th graders. These students are from incredibly wealthy families. They live their lives online, aka “digital natives”. They can’t type worth a damn and very many of them say they don’t have E-mail accounts. It boggles the mind.
