The rants go Marching one by one (Monthly Mini-Rants)

I did something similar last week with tilapia. Oops!

Have you taken him to the vet? He may have had a stroke.

He’s fine. No cat as wriggly as he is has had a stroke. He’s doing this deliberately, as he does from time to time when he’s decided he ought to have something to eat other than what he’s given and he feels I’ve chased him away from Eddy’s food too often. A couple weeks is a bit extreme for him, but at 18+ he’s kinda cranky.

He’s on a prescription food that mostly keeps him from vomiting thanks to IBD. It only comes in one flavor, though.

Fool Me Twice: April Mini-Rants

I just wanted to say thanks for your encouragement. I was going to forget all about the double charge and, in fact, I completely ignored it until I went back to the same store today, nearly a month later to do some more shopping, but had the receipt in hand, and decided to complain about the double charge.

The nice lady informed me that refunds are limited to 14 days, but she not only accepted my word that I had only bought one ham, but processed the refund anyway after nearly a month.

And there was a spin-off effect. Being now paranoid, I checked my receipt today on the way out, while still in the store, and danged if I had not been double-charged once again! This time I had bought two items and been charged for three. If I had not checked my receipt lo those many weeks ago, I wouldn’t have noticed either error.

Was it the same cashier both times? If so, s/he definitely needs some retraining. If not, I’d be considering switching stores, since this is getting to be a pattern there.

No, not the same cashier. I shop at various different groceries but I have to include this one because they have a lot of unique and high quality products. I suspect their scanners are just especially susceptible to double-scanning, but we’ll see. They’re certainly gracious about correcting the mistakes. For now I’ll keep an eye on my receipts and go with the old adage that “once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is a conspiracy”.
