The raw egg in milk: good or bad for pets?

Alas, I have no pictures of Jo-Jo. We didn’t have a camera then, and if we did my parents wouldn’t have allowed me to use it. I was only eight when we got her. My Dad is no longer living, and my brother and sister live several states away. Only my Mom and I remember Jo-Jo’s weird eating habits.

Goat milk is safer to give to dogs , some pet store sell it for pet but I buy it at a grocery store b/c it’s a lot cheaper . My dog is really bad about drinking enough water so I add some goat milk to his water to encourage him to drink more,

Yeah, but first you have to find a place that sells goat’s milk.

Walmart carries it some places, and you can order evaporated goat’s milk online. You’d be surprised how available it can be locally, it’s just not the kind of think advertised much.

How about that. Evaporated goats give milk.

Keep in mind that egg production is way different from decades ago. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that some threats of yesteryear are much lower (e.g. trichinosis in pork) while others are higher.

I used to have raw eggs (quick egg nog) back in the 70s, but IIRC, I got out of the habit due to learning about changes in egg dairy farming.

You can reconstitute both the milk and the goats. Saves costs all around.

Reconstituting goats…that would be a sight to see.

There’s a daily ritual in my house that goes like this.

Wake up, free dog from crate. Dog goes “back to bed” on the couch. Grind coffee, boil water. Dog hears grinder, then tea kettle whistling. Then dog hears the fridge open. Instantly, what used to be a half-asleep dog is bright eyed and bushy tailed and standing in front of me, drooling a puddle out on the floor.

I pour my half-and-half into my coffee mug, and then turn and pour out about a tablespoon on the tile, which she happily laps right up. (She keeps my floors nice and clean with her tongue mop.)

In the event that I’m cooking something that requires only egg whites or only egg yolks, after the egg is separated, I toss the rest in the dog’s bowl. Which she also happily laps up.

While a fast food french fry might really cause some digestive issues, or any sort of onions/garlic hiding in my food, I have yet to have a single problem with the daily lick of half and half or the occasional raw egg bits. She also gets the leftover egg mixture if I made French toast, so that’s eggs and milk and maybe a bit of cinnamon and vanilla.

And also, someone mentioned upthread that dog food doesn’t have taurine, which cats require in their diet. Some dog foods do; I feed Blue Buffalo and that has taurine in it. So when my cat (who is now gone) snacked from the dog’s bowl, it was not a big deal. He was supposed to be on a low protein diet anyway because he had kidney problems.

Dogs (and some cats) love that too!

De gustibus non est disputandum!
We once had a dog who did that; she also ate her own vomit!! Double barf!!!

There are several differences between men and dogs. These are just things men could do but don’t.

My dog always tries to eat her own vomit, looking at me like, “What? That’s still fresh!”
