The Redwalls: you know this band?

Here are the search results from an Amazon search - they have two albums - the indie release Universal Blues and the newer De Nova.

Brilliant stuff - sounds steeped in Brit Invasion, but updated. There are songs where the singer is channeling John Lennon raving it up on Twist and Shout. The songs are well-constructed and harken back to the day, but sound fresh.

The band is a bunch of 22-year-olds or so out of Chicago - they did Universal Blues when they were about 19. Jeez.

Anyone listen to them? If you like great Beatles-like rock/pop, these guys are great. (note: on De Nova there is a song about the FCC that includes some clearly articulated f-bombs - good song, but a bummer in terms of playing it for the kids…)

bump

Really? With all the music types on this board? They’re really good!!

I’ve only heard three songs by them, but I’m pretty sure I hate them. My god, could their sound be more grating? Probably not the feedback you’re looking for, but I didn’t want you to think you were the only one who has ever heard of them.

hmmm - so I take it you don’t like early Beatles - like their cover of “Money - that’s what I want” or “Twist and Shout”? That’s cool. YMMV

Everybody I play the Redwalls for thinks they sound really similar, down to the Lennon-like vocals…

I don’t think they sound remotely like the early Beatles.

Wow - clearly YMMV. We may not be listening to the same band. Every review I have found of them makes a point of mentioning that they sound like early Brit Invasion bands with an updated sound.

See what I mean?
