The Repeal of Obamacare/ACA: Step-bystep, Inch-by-inch

It’s the Republicans who said they would rid the country of this troublesome plan. And failed.

It’s the fault of the GOP that this so-called horrible plan still exists. Their fault.
They failed to do what they were elected to do.
They failed to the extent that they wouldn’t even vote on their own plan.
Was it because it was worse than the ACA?

Your answer:

I’m going to throw out another analogy. Everyone should like this one, because I’m going to use household economics to explain macroeconomics and Republicans generally like that.

So there is a bold debate in this household. Mom thinks the family would really benefit from having a car. Dad thinks Mom should go screw herself, no one needs a car, cars are lazy and progressive and people should just walk everywhere.

So debate goes on for forever and the end result is Mom gets her car, but it’s kind of a cheap economy car that gets lousy gas mileage but a least it’s a car, damn it. So Mom and the kids use the hell out of it even though the gas bills skyrocket.

Except Dad is pissed off about the whole car thing, so he sneaks into the garage at night and starts taking parts out of the car and loosening bolts and stuff. So now there are tow truck bills in addition to gas bills. And Dad is being an asshole and constantly razzing Mom about how badly her precious car runs, even though it’s breaking down because he’s sabotaging it.

But Mom and the kid know about the sabotage because Dad is doing it openly, not even sneaking around. He expected his half of the kids to be on his side and give him a hand.

But all the kids have been benefiting from having a car, and even the kids that were against a car and thought they didn’t mind walking really like having a car. In fact, they realize they need one. So they are taking Moms side except for a few of the most assholish children who want Dad to burn the car, divorce Mom and then kill her and party on her grave.

So Mom still has her crappy sabotaged car because Dad can’t find quite enough asshole kids to sctually set it on fire and kill Mom and everything. And the ultra asshole kids get pissed off about this whenever they see Mom in her car.

But what most of the kids really want is for Dad to pony up for an actual decent car that gets good gas mileage. And all the neighbors have cars of some sort, even poor neighbors like the Mexicoes and the Russias.

But they know Dad is still an asshole and there’s no way he’ll buy a decent car. So now all they want is for Dad to stop sabotaging the damn car and let Mom in the garage to put it back together.

But Dad is still not letting her in the garage to fix her car, and he’s always yelling about the gas and repair bills. And most of the rest of the kids are pissed and yelling back. Yes, they know the car is a disaster in the works only because it’s been sabotaged and if they’d let Mom fix it the car would run. The car would still get crappy mileage and should be replaced with a more efficient car that might cost more at first, bit we need a car.

And that is my analogy. We really need a health care system and we should have a better one, but since the Republicans are not going to give us a better one they should step aside and stop sabotaging the one we have and let us fix it.

PS excuse any dumb typos, please I am having vision problems and can’t see well enough to proofread

Channeling D’Anconia who always goes for the important stuff: Cite that these kids exist?

If the ACA had chosen to lower premiums, it would be twice as popular as it is right now. By making insurance purchase mandatory, *and *also *raising *premiums, it was a PR backlash waiting to happen.

This was due to more sabotage by the republicans, in torpedoing the risk corridors and refusing the Medicaid expansion in many states. This drove up costs for insurers, causing them to have to raise premiums more than expected. They’re doing it again now by withholding the cost sharing subsidy payments.

It’s a shame that they didn’t just choose to lower premiums. Nobody knew health care could be so simple.

This post is the same thing you are, and also the same thing as the explanation for this supposed paradox: a lying sack of pig shit.

Well, okay. The explanation is multiple lying sacks of pig shit. Remember death panels? Sure, it was a fucking lie, but apparently it took most of a decade for people to figure that out. The republicans won because they lied. They lied, and they lied, and they lied, and they poisoned the well, in an attempt to take down anyone who would call them on their lies. It’s fucking disgraceful that it took this long for the whole country to realize that the republicans didn’t have a plan, but at least they fucking did. Welcome to the smart side, morons. It was clear to most of us from the beginning that they not only didn’t have a plan, but logically couldn’t have a plan, but hey, good of some of you to get on board.

Meanwhile, if this forum banned arguing in bad faith, you’d be the first on the ban list, fucko.

So all these elected Republicans thought ACA/Obamacare was better than what the other elected Republicans suggested and decided rather to keep ACA/Obamacare.

What other proof you need that ACA/Obamacare is far superior to all versions those elected Republicans had ?

Trump can’t get his plan passed so in a fit of pique, he sabotages the ACA.
See? I told you it was a disaster!

This technique might work better if it wasn’t overtly announced ahead of time. Honestly, I expected the evil from this administration, but the incompetence is above and beyond what I thought possible.

So why are the Democrats running away from their responsibility of creating, and passing, ACA/Obamacare. This is their pride and joy. Or at least it was. Now Democrats want to blame the Republicans because the Republicans didn’t stop them??? ACA/Obamacare is not our problem. We couldn’t come up with something better. Besides, we didn’t even know what was in it. If the voters are so upset with ACA/Obamacare, they should start trusting Democrat candidates again. Trust us, we wouldn’t screw you over again. Please stop unelecting Democrats. We had nothing to do with the rising costs of ACA/Obamacare.

Glad you admit it.

You seem confused as to who’s running away. There are plenty of dems who will admit there are flaws that need fixing.

The GOP has taken over, with majorities in both houses of Congress, with the stated goal of repealing and replacing the ACA.
Failed on both counts.

The GOP has had seven years to put together a carefully crafted, superior plan.
Failed.

It’s the GOP’s game. No one is standing in the way of repeal and replace.
Explain why the ACA is still in place with no replacement in sight.

And I wonder why the Democrats failed to push through those fixes the last few years…

The GOP had a majority in the HoR in the 113th Congress, both Houses in the 114th.

Yes, I know.

doorhinge doesn’t.

And even back in 2009, Democratic control of Congress only lasted for less than two months (July 7 - August 25). That’s barely enough time to pass the original bill (and that they managed to do so at all is nothing short of heroic), but it’s not enough time to see what issues came up after it was implemented and to fix those too.

(post shortened)

The elected Republicans seem to be listening to their constituents. Some want change, some want repeal. A compromise hasn’t been reached yet.

The Democrats created ACA/Obamacare all by themselves. They didn’t even know what was in it when they passed it. Bummer. And they refuse to change it. If the voters don’t like the status quo, who will they hold responsible for the high costs and limited options? The party trying to change it, or the party who had no idea what they were voting for but refuse to change it?

The Democrats can try to deny their responsibility for ACA/Obamacare. But the only voters who believe that are already Democrats. Time will tell.

Only someone really, really stupid could believe that.

So, I’m sure you believe in with all your heart, but no. It’s just some shit the cynical assholes you get your news from fed you, and you gobbled it up because you don’t think for yourself.
