The Repeal of Obamacare/ACA: Step-bystep, Inch-by-inch

Then again, in the context of health care, the shorter phrase “It’s like twelve monkeys” would be even worse.

BTW, I’m sorry I missed so much of this conversation. The Dopers help my faith in Americans, which is daily dashed because I keep reading comments on news articles.

jsgoddess, I have to catch up on this issue. Was on vacation, and I go on a news fast during that time since I can’t discuss it at all. One of our party is a good person but seriously deluded; he’s one of those people who counters facts and data with “I don’t believe in that.”

Interesting. I get that same phrase from various family members and acquaintances, all of them conservative.

It’s interesting phrasing, too; not “I don’t believe that,” but “I don’t believe IN that.”

You’re entitled to your own beliefs; you’re not entitled to your own facts.

A person making $11,400 in 2026 will face a deductible that’s more than half their income, ensuring that people have the ability to “exercise their freedom” not to be insured.

It’s not like you can live* on $11,400 anywhere in America in 2017.

*In this argument, live = have a clean dry place to sleep, food security, and new shoes every other year.

Loving this.

“McConnell says GOP must shore up ACA insurance markets if Senate bill dies”

*ThelmaLou looks outside to see if hell has frozen over. *

If McConnell does this, I might be able to muster up a tiny shred of respect for him. It’s a sad state of government affairs when facing reality becomes newsworthy.

Or it might have been a threat. "We either come up with 50 votes, or … COMPROMISE WITH DEMOCRATS!! MUUUWWWWAAAAHHAAAHHAAAA!!! [duh duh duuuuuuhhh!!!

Some of these people are noticing how many people in their state will lose coverage and that it includes people with insurance through their work too, not just people on ACA.

Oh, it definitely was a threat. No question about it. But he is seeing the REALITY of the situation.

In contrast with Trump who has no contact with reality, to wit, “Let’s just say fuck-it and repeal that sucker! We’ll replace someday. In the meantime, who cares about the losers it will affect.”

For another whacky whack at it again, a new Senate Republican Health Bill is at the free throw line and it’s all coming up Shaquille O’Neal.

Darndest thing.

On PBS Newshour tonight Lisa Desjardins was mentioning that along with two definite naysayers - Susan Collins (Maine) and Rand “curlier-haired than Mike Reno” Paul (Kentucky), there were five other senators - Ron Johnson (Wi.), Mike Lee (Ut.), Shelly Moore Capito (WV), Dean Heller (NV), Lisa Murkowski [Ak] - who all had their own misgivings.

Meanwhile президент Trump is getting all synapse-hampered over these bungling senate nitwits and their very, very sad lack of results.

I’m sure he’s wishing he could just go “You’re All fired!”

I just gotta say, that’s a terrific turn of phrase. Kudos.

Hat tipped.
Wasn’t sure if I should’ve mentioned Shaq or Joakim Noah.

Considering the odds of this getting ratified are as likely as президент Trump getting the Nobel for restraining hmself from grabbing Brigitee Macron’s hoo-hah, are the reps going back for a third attempt, then, or just repeal and…freefall?

Just the sound of the “Cruz amendment”…gross.

Cory Gardner is in an interesting position according to the Washington Post basically he’s probably against the health care bill but can’t state so publicly. As a former Coloradoan, I think he’s got to vote no if he’ll be #50 but he’ll be ok if it gets 51 or 52 votes.

There only are 52 Republican senators, and two of them (Collins and Rand Paul) are already solid nos.

Your tax dollars at work. Paul Ryan backs off killing the ACA to take up women’s right to bare their arms on The Hill.

What a freaking Tool.

After all the shit Michelle took, now it’s OK?
I guess anything Obama is a target.

After all that has happened, ANY Democrat who works with McConnell on Anything is a asshole and should be tossed out soon as possible.

They’re also VERY good at not “remembering” anything that is inconvenient for them.
