And if you just missed getting credits last year you may be eligible for at least something this year, as the poverty level rises.
Hey look, they are back at it. Senate likely to repeal the individual mandate in their tax bill.
Whee.
And unsurprisingly, CBO has said the bill will trigger automatic sequestration and $25 billion in Medicare cuts starting in 2018.
Sooo, they are getting pretty close to passing this idiocy. They are trying like crazy to cook the books and claim it’s not going to spike the deficit (despite saying it’s okay to spike the deficit). Then they’ll announce how terrible it is that all of those nasty poor people get so much money and drive up the debt, so it’s time to cut programs.
The Senate is taking it to the floor tomorrow, on last word. Vast majority of the benefit goes to the wealthy. Tax breaks for lower-income people expire while the wealthy and corporate tax breaks don’t. Corporations also get to keep deductions individuals lose. Will trigger mandatory cuts to Medicare. Likely puts more pressure on Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security. Rising premiums from the elimination of the mandate. I’ve yet to see a reputable economist say this thing will come close to paying for itself, but they don’t actually care about that.
Call your senator. Call your representative. If it passes and you’re lucky enough to get a tax break, better enjoy it quick if you’re under 75000/year.
I’ve been calling both of my senators and representative on a weekly basis regarding this issue for the last month. This is the first time that I’ve ever been compelled to do this. As a resident of a blue state with high state and local taxes (and a mortgage), I believe I’m going to get screwed right off the bat. It would be one thing if my higher taxes were going to a worthy cause, like strengthening Social Security or Medicare, or reducing the deficit, but that’s not the case at all. My taxes are slated to go up dramatically so that corporations and billionaires can get a huge tax break. Fuck that.
It’s very easy to call your senator or representative in Washington. The phone number is (202) 224-3121 -or- (202) 225-3121.
A recording will ask if you want to speak to your senator or representative. You then give your state of residence (or zip code), and you will be directly connected to their office in Washington. You will then be able to speak to a very nice staffer who will listen to your opinion. Be respectful and succinct, and be sure you tell them that you are one of their boss’s constituents. It’s my understanding that phone calls do make a difference.
Both of my Senators and my Representative are Democrats. Is there any point in calling them?
Yes. Give them firepower to bring up in arguments. “I’ve gotten calls from hundreds of my constituents telling me this is bad for them.” Thank them for being on the side you agree with. Praise them. Support them.
Probably couldn’t hurt.
What would be the message for GOP representatives at this point? They’ve already voted, right? I just emailed my GOP rep, but want to email him, but want to have a good message handy.
Unless the Senate passes the House bill with no changes, the House will have another chance to vote. They will vote either on the Senate’s bill or on a compromise bill. So tell them they shouldn’t vote for this bill (or should, if that’s your feeling about it) when it comes back. Be specific about things. E.g. Don’t raise the deficit that way, no voting without a complete score, no sequester cuts, etc.
Christ on a cracker. What a complete ignoramus.
OTOH I’m certainly looking forward to more people asking Susan Collins how it feels to be duped into repealing Obamacare.
Nobody knew healthcare could be so complicated.
Trump wanted people to know that Obamacare had been repealed. He’s not stupid enough to believe that reporters aren’t going to tell the world what he just told them. That was his way of telling the donor class that supports him that their investment in Trump paid dividends and achieved two items on his agenda: tax cuts for the rich and the downward spiral of Obamacare - and he’s probably right.
It’s up to the American people to decide for themselves when they’ve had enough of being stomped in the balls.
I know. His loyalists only believe the words that fall from his lips. The [del]tooth[/del] truth cannot be found anywhere else.
Worst case scenario, she’ll just retire. But when Mainers finally figure out how badly her party has screwed them - and they eventually will - she might not want to retire in Maine.

Yes, it’s that “Get-You-Lazy-Assholes-To-Work” time in Kentucky as the first state to implement President Bowl of Spooge’s medicaid plan.
Thanks to shithole gate, this change in Medicaid has been largely overlooked but it’s a significant one. This work requirement is a Trojan horse that will no doubt be used to screw people out of benefits. People who take Medicaid are often unemployable or find it difficult to get and keep work for extended periods of time. I swear to God republicans have no fucking conscience at all. People talk about the need for compromise in this country and understanding diverse viewpoints, and when I see shit like this, I conclude that there’s no reason to compromise. The Republican party needs to be destroyed and their voters need to be put in re-education camps and schooled on basic humanity.
