This is a slightly zombified thread, but I didn’t know if this tidbit was worth starting a new thread. Michael Steele is toast. From a GQ article as reported on HuffPost, this exchange:
The only problem there is was that it wasn’t very off the hook. I mean, it is beyond the cutting edge, and it certainly is an update of the party image that will surprise everyone, as he promised. However, he should have said that it was an “indivizzizle chazizzle” or “Whooop, there it is for you to choose.”
At this point, maybe he’s just going to end up saying “It’s hard out there for a national party chairman.”
It’s a “State’s Rights” position common to some Republicans.
I’m not sure what it’s all about, but suspect some of them “appear” to support a pro-choice position which placates the average-but-pro-choice-or-don’t- really-care-or-are-not-a single-issue-voter, but actually support a “State’s Rights” position (that R v.W should not have been a Federal issue) because they believe that if each state chooses, they can or will restrict abortion on a state-by-state level.
And he’s already walking it back.
I don’t think this guy’s balls can be seen with the naked eye.
And there’s the problem the GOP has right now - Steele’s hip-hop thing was awkward and goofy as all hell, but as soon as he tries to drag some of the party’s rhetoric forward a few decades, he gets shouted down. It’s normal for chairmen to be somewhat divisive, but Steele’s off to a bad start.
And since I don’t know where else to say this… when Steele made his “urban/suburban hip-hop context” comment, the only words that came to my mind were “rapping grannies.”
Thank God for the second P.
[Judge Doom] You see, I bought the Red Car so I could dismantle it. [/Judge Doom]
He tried to tell us.
I keep thinking of Poochie, still.
Apparently, Steele’s position on rights for gay couples also fluxes quite a bit depending on the audience.
Dead man walking!
Word? Fo shizzle?
Yo dawg, don’t be dissin’
Wanna bet?
