Going to plant a weeping willow
On the bank’s green edge it will grow, grow, grow
Singing a lullaby beside the water
Lovers come and go, the river will roll, roll, roll
out of the river all ugly and green
came the biggest old alligator theat I’ve ever seen
teeth big and pointed and his eyes bugging out
Black muddy river, roll on forever,
I don’t care how deep or wide, if you’ve got another side,
Roll muddy river, roll muddy river, black muddy river, roll.
We can discover the wonders of nature,
rolling in the rushes down by the riverside.
keep on rolling , just a mile to go
keep on rolling, my old buddy, you’re moving much too slow
Can I go buddy? Can I go down; take your shift at the mine?
I live in a silver mine and I call it Beggar’s Tomb;
I got me a violin and I beg you call the tune,
anybody’s choice, I can hear your voice.
The story teller makes no choice, soon you will not hear his voice~
Comes a time when the blind-man takes your hand, says “Don’t you see?
Gotta make it somehow on the dreams you still believe.”
Believe it if you need it or leave it if you dare…
…dare to leap where the angels fear to tread!
I ran down to the levee but the devil caught me there
He took my twenty dollar bill and vanished in the air.
I wish I had a dollar for each time we both been down this grade.
If you got a dollar… just lay it on the line
Baahhn-baahhn-baahhn-baahhn-baahhn-baahhn!
(I have no idea how obvious or obscure that is – of even if it comes across the way I hoped. But please let someone get that and not let me kill the thread!)
(Pretty dern obscure. The “bahns!” were Mickey beating on his drumkit for Rythym Devils. Great stuff! :)" )
Gonna scare you up and shoot ya; Mister Charlie told me so
Mister Charlie telling me, I can’t do nothing wrong
Mister Charlie told me, thought you like to know
I’ve been listening to a lot of Brent tunes over the last week - glad I’m not the only one! Love those high harmony parts.
I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle
I feel the bullet go deep in my chest
All of my friends come to see me last night
I was laying in my bed and dying…
(Side note for the curious. Those of you (some? many? all?) who knew this, please forgive the over-explanation.)
Corbomite manoeuvred with a “… just lay it on the line,” which had me jumping right to Beat it on Down the Line. Simple, huh? Ah, wait. That tune always had a bit of fluffy fun in it, a giddy time right at the beginning. Whenever they’d start it there’d be a series of beats (or sometimes none at all, you never can tell, can you?). You can hear them in your head now, can’t you?* Baahhn-baahhn-baahhn-baahhn-baahhn-baahhn!* (Well, that’s what I was trying to spell, anyway.)
Though often baffling, they usually had an easily interpretable meaning; spot on the tour, day of the month, etc. They did 42 on Mickey’s 42[sup]nd[/sup]. If you never noticed, go pull up a couple shows at archive.org (or wherever) and give it a listen.
I was post #54 so I figured that was a bit much, then I realized it was June first—so six beats it was!
Oh—has anyone else had the time to listen to all the tunes mentioned so far? Man I wish I found this thread earlier. Thanks!
ain’t a bed can give us rest now, you keep us on the run
The race is on and it looks like heartaches, and the winner loses all.
