The Rick Perry for President Thread

Perry is hiding out ,getting carefully schooled by Repub pols and TV experts. He has to do better in the next debate or he will become an afterthought. He can not show the public how dumb he is again.

It did not work. Perry is still a stumble bum and is very stupid.

Then how did Nixon essentially tie Kennedy in the popular vote?

Huntsman’s would be an extremely strong candidate simply by not having much baggage. It would be hard to pigeonhole an Obama appointee who refused to sign to Grover Norquist anti-tax pledge as an extremist.

Luckily for the Democrats, I think he’s a no-chancer, even in 2016.

Depends on how you define “luckily”. I would love to have a choice between two sane, rational candidates in the general election. And if that means that the candidate I prefer loses occasionally, well, it’s not so bad, since the guy who wins is still sane and rational. In the long run, that’s how you build up a strong nation, and that’s to everyone’s benefit.

No. The President has a bully pulpit, but his policies are going to be closely related to what his party does. Romney is sane, but he will be forever having to prove to the red-meat crowd that he is “One of them”: in practice his policies wouldn’t differ that much from Perry’s. That said, Romney is smarter and has a cooler head, so he would do a lot better in a crisis.

What I wish for is 2 parties that are run by the sane or rational. It’s acceptable if either has a nutty fringe, provided the grownups are in charge. Reagan introduced magical thinking into the Republican mainstream, but pragmatists were firmly in control until about 1994. At that point, moderate Republicans lost control: today they are extinct and their forebears dismissed as RINOs. It’s a shame. There’s no evidence that Romney would be inclined to reverse this: only electoral loss and a long walk in some very cold woods could do that.

That wasn’t in reference to Romney, though, but to Huntsman. And Huntsman getting the nomination would be a sign that the grown-ups had, in fact, taken back control of the party.

Perry’s latest ploy for attention: climb on board the Birther crazy train.

Wait, he doesn’t have a definitive opinion about Obama, because Obama has never seen his birth certificate? I’m having a hard time contorting that even into Tea Party logic.

Great day for Perry. He became a birther and came out for a flat tax at the same time. He is getting loonier every day as he tries to outloon Cain.

One possible good result of Perry’s campaign…

Texas sells Special license plates, which raise a bit of money & let Texans express themselves. The Sons of Confederate Veterans wanted one with a stylized version of the Battle Flag; fairly controversial.

Perry just came out against that option! The Houston Press thinks he had his mind on how it would look nationwide…

Wow, for one day, I am happy that Perry ran for Prez. The less I see a bunch of traitorous fools being honored, the happier I am.
