The Rick Perry for President Thread

Has the porn thing been brought up yet? I skimmed through the thread didn’t see anything.

Ooh, haven’t seen that yet. That’s gonna leave a mark.

Okay, I have to admit, this one is in his favor.

Daily Kos! Daily Kos! Totally lefty site, arrroooooga! Danger, Will Robinson!

Gov Rick Perry, on his book Fed Up!

Spokesman for the New! Improved! Georgie Tirebiter.

“He’s not insane!”

Oh, man, I was really hoping that was a direct quote from Sullivan.

I wanted to post this here: Rick Perry on abstinence only education. <– Youtube

He’s not what you call a deep thinker.

I’m no fan of Rick Perry, but this doesn’t bother me. When my deeply indebted neighbors decided to splurge on a BBQ picnic for the neighborhood, I shook my head and told my wife that they ought to be spending their money more wisely. However, I still showed up at the feast, fork and knife in hand. I don’t see any hypocrisy there.

I suppose it might work to discredit him among some of the set that ask why proponents of campaign finance reform engage in some of the practices they want restricted, as if they should play by rules that have yet to be established. The set that asks, if you think taxes should be higher, why don’t you just write the Treasury an extra large check come April. You know, the idiots.

Now, it is legitimate to point out that a lot of the improvements in Texas he’s been trumpeting about were a direct result of that federal aid he’s been decrying.

Perry wrote a book last year putting his thoughts and programs down for all to read. Now, on the national stage, he is suggesting we can not hold him this year for what he wrote last year. Typical 2 faced lying politician.

I remember when he refused to sign a bill making texting while driving against the law statewide because it infringed upon people’s personal rights too much or some such nonsense…sheesh!

Perry is a miserable fuck deserving no respect.
If I were a teacher in Texas ,I would check my brake lines before I drove my car.

I express no opinion on whether Rick Perry can win the general. I will simply point out the following:

1 - The secession thingie is a complete non-starter with the Republican party. They like that stuff. (Despite what you see here, I guarantee you that at least two-thirds of the Republican Party agrees with Rick Perry on the stuff he says. Remember, prior to Obama finally getting Hawaii to release the long form and shut up the birthers, something like three-fourths of them were willing to express some degree of doubt as to his actually having been born in the US. The Rockefeller wing of the Republican Party is vanishingly small at this point.)

2 - He was a bad student? So what: Obama never released his transcripts. (Don’t know, and am not interested, in whether this is true or not. This is the response you will get.)

3 - The economy thing and jobs will never fly. San Antonio was, last I checked, which admittedly was a little while ago, the fastest growing city in the country. Yes, it’s dirt-poor, but still, it was growing like a weed, and is still doing well, according to my brother, who actually lives there. So, attacking him on the economy is going to be extremely tough. And we all know how important the economy is to winning elections.

So, in conclusion, at this point I’m pretty convinced he’ll be the Republican nominee. And if Obama manages to beat him, it won’t be by a wide margin. It will be a very close squeaker. The more likely outcome is a convincing Perry win.

So, which is it?

Oh lordie.
Door number two, if you must know.

Uh oh. Looks like you’ve made up your mind. How dare you.

Perry will totally flame out in a matter of weeks. He is exciting exactly the same people as were excited by Palin/Bachmann Overdrive, and he repels the same people who are repelled, i.e., the sane and the sensible.

The man has baggage. And that’s just the shit we know about. When the rest of the country peers into the cesspool of Texas politics, they clutch thier pearls and faint dead away, thud!

Whatever happens, you’re gonna hear a lot of whining about the liberal media persecution of poor ol’ Governor Goodolboy.

And that’s why I think he will survive for a surprising amount of time. He has an amazing, and frankly baffling ability to say or do incredibly dumb things and have them bounce off him with nary a bruise. If he gets the nomination I won’t be a bit surprised.

I also won’t dare get involved in conjecture this far from election day on who has the best chance of winning in the general election though. I’ll hold off until some time around August of 2012 before I make any serious predictions about that.

They don’t hide it. McConnell had repeated it often, suggesting they will sabotage progress in the country for their own political ends. If you believe that pols should hurt the people and the country for potential political gain, you must be a tea bagger.

Perry has refused to provide past expense records and is being sued for that. In the meantime, he has added language to a school funding bill to close his expense records for the next 18 months (until after the Presidential elections).

Perry claims the records need to be kept hidden for his safety. WaPo suggests he may be trying to hide strange expenses like scuba gear rental for his wife (and the ever present phalanx of State Troopers he takes everywhere) while meeting with Grover Norquist in the Bahamas and other things.
