I’ve noticed a fair number of users whose location or comments indicate they’re from the Greater Sacramento SMSA. Born and raised there, and raised a family or two, mostly in the northeastern suburbs and small cities. Left for the northeast a few years ago, have no real intention of every going back.
Chat amongst yourselves.
I was born and raised in Sacramento, and couldn’t wait until I could grow up and move someplace more exciting. Then I grew up, and decided it wasn’t such a bad place after all.
In my younger self’s defense, it’s quite possible that the city has indeed become more exciting somewhere in the last 47 years…in any case, I’m quite content to stay.
I lived in the foothills (Amador County) for many years; rather dreaded the occasional trip into Sacramento for shopping or other urban needs. Five years ago, I moved down into an older neighborhood of East Sac, and discovered I quite like the feel of the community and the convenience of restaurants right around the corner, Trader Joes five minutes away, and walking laps around McKinley Park.
Not going to stop us from moving north to Ashland in a few years when I retire, though.
Grew up in Rancho Cordova and now live in DC (likely permanently). I miss the diversity, good Mexican food and mild winters.
One thing I will say is that Sacramento has the worst urban planners on the planet. Every single thing they do is wrong. It’s as if they are on a holy mission to squash any vibrancy that might somehow sneak in to the city.
Born in Chico, raised in the Bay Area, lived 20 years in SoCal, came to live with my parents in Citrus Heights as they got to be too old to live by themselves.
SOMEbody needs to build a north-south freeway on the east side of the metroplex, running parallel to Hazel or Sunrise.
Mmm, Urbano’s on the corner of Auburn and Mazanita… what passes for Mexican food out here makes Taco Bell look exotic.
Oh, any city can do that. Just hand all real power to the real estate developers around 1948 and stand back. Remember when North Natomas was never, ever going to be developed into yet more rolling suburbia and consumer commercial? Remember when Roseville was surrounded by hills? Remember that little town, Elk Grove? I do and I am not that damned old…
I was born and live in the Bay Area until my family moved to the foothills east of Sacramento when I was 15. I went to college at Sac State and have lived in Sacramento for the last 20+ yrs. I like it here. It’s very diverse.
I’m a bit east of Sacramento now and after spending the last thirty years in Fresno, this is heavenly. The air is so much better and the heat isn’t quite so bad. I’m in Citrus Heights all the time with my grand babies.
I wish I could afford to live in Folsom or Eldorado Hills though. I drive too much and the job market stinks up where I’m at.
Don’t live there, but I’ve visited several times. One of my best friends lives in the Rosemont area.
Sacramento seems nice enough. The summer heat is brutal but I like the way it really cools down at night, which tends not to happen during the worst of the summer swelter in the South.
