The Salvation Army - Bunch of unethical, holier-than-thou ASSHOLES

I KNEW it! - They explicitly told me my money would be going to help Macaroni and Chinstrap penguins! the heartless lying unethical BASTARDS! BULLSHIT, IT’S ALL BULLSHIT.

Well, they are called the Salvation ARMY, after all.

Maybe they’ve in cahoots with Bin Laden’s gang or something, and Omni has the inside skinny.

Details, Omni, DETAILS!!!

OK, Let me guess. You are you presently undercover with the FBI, CIA, MI6, CSIS, PLO, MENSA and last but not least, NAMBLA. You’re in the middle of a sting and you just decided to leak a “little info?”

Maybe CNN would like to hear your insight! Sounds big!

Now the United Way has a rich tradition of ethically challenged leadership (and yet another row has been detailed by the washington post lately- you would think after all of the bad headlines they got a couple of years ago they would have fixed that crap) after reading the actual cases against their former CEO and his sleazy cronies in non-profit law class I vowed never to give them a dime. And I haven’t.

The Salvation Army (while a bit preachy) does good work with those who need it most. I gladly kick into the kettle and will continue to do so.

The “trust me” school of cite is intersting. I know about the United Way’s plan to convert us to satan worshiping cannibals. My cite is based on the doctrine of “Again, I’m still too close to the situation to be THAT out!” Me too.

Hmm, I’m finding it very interesting that so many people here are so quick to assume that the Salvation Army has little or no corruption, and is exactly as they present themselves to the public. What happened to that keen edge of skepticism and cynicism that Dopers are so famous for? Or are you all just having too much fun poking fun at Omnipresent to really think about what he’s saying?

Omni, I beg you, if you do NOTHING else, tell us about the raucous and criminal party’s [sic] that the Salvation Army are holding.

Yes, I’ve thought about it all right. All I can come up with was “what a steaming pile of dog feces the original post was!”

If that was your goal, congratulations.

Featherlou,

Someone has to prove they are guilty. Not assume it or “take their word for it.”

The Sally-Ann’s reputation has far more creditibilty with me than Omnipresents, who either can’t or is unwilling to back anything up or give particulars.

That just don’t cut it on the SDMB… even in the pit.

You’re right, I hadn’t thought about it in a while. But since I now have, thanks to you . . .

I did not mean to denigrate the mormons at all, but rather hold them out as a group with a high standard of service.

Salvation Army is PEOPLE

I don’t know about any internal abuses. I do know that SA spent tens of thousands of dollars on deceptive advertising to defeat a local anti-discrimination law because it would have outlawed discrimination based on sexual orientation. Since then I have been content that if they can afford to drop that much cash just to make sure homosexuals can still get kicked out of apartments by ignorant rednecks they can do without my loose change.

Now that is what I would call an excellent point to kick around at GD or in the pit, Degrance. Still, given the degree of good works they do, I (as a liberal humanist) would still be likely to continue my support of their charitable works.

What was deceptive about it?

Hey, everybody!

Omnipresent is really Osama bin Laden!

Can’t give you a cite, just knowledge from the inside. That’ll have to do.

It will come to light soon. But I won’t be the type to say “I told you so.”

Sorry for the lack of hard-core evidence. Again, I’m still too close to the situation to be THAT out! More will come out in public eventually.

:wally

They used the, “It would be giving special rights to perverts” attack that seems so popular when this issue arrises. Which is deceptive because it isn’t true.

Hold it. Do I have “STUPID” written on my forehead? Maybe you’re being deceptive about what the ad really said. Special rights to perverts? Dubious.

(How many people heard Rob’s voice?)

Not all charity boards are compensated.

My organization For Ex:

Board members are not compensated. The biggest cost factor we have is staff salaries/fringes (yea, I don’t work for free, but I make roughly 2/3’s of a comperable position in the marketplace). and that staff time is doing charitible work, for the most part. THe next biggest cost factor (and this goes into that administrative overhead that so worreid Anthacite) includes insurances and accounting/audit costs (that takes up about 10% of my annual budget).

Audits are pretty expensive (no snickering from the Arthur Anderson group) - even for my very small non profit, with pretty straight forward tax returns and so on, it’s about 4% of the annual budget.

Sorry Pal, can’t right now. BTW, how is former Comm. Gaither?

Careful Degrance. Be very careful here.
