I know of several Muslims whose belief is that the Qur’an is not just a book, not just a religious ‘bible’, but an existent miracle.
Such people believe that the validity of their faith would be destroyed if the words of the Qur’an could be improved in any way at all. Such people would therefore believe Qur’an was superior not just to all books, but to all possible books. So though I know nothing about the B’ghad Gitva (sp?) I know that some (probably many) Muslims know that the Qur’an is superior to that book.
I am interested to know about non Muslim people who have read the Qur’an in its original language. What do they feel about the book?
For what it’s worth, I’ll vote yes, Jews, Christians and Muslims are (trying) to worship the same God, that is, the God who created Adam and Eve.
I’m just stepping back into this debate to confirm for y’all that there is indeed a large and growing consensus among physicists that parallel universes exist. Therefore my argument still stands that. in light of this, the only rational position to take is that all religions are bogus.
And Monty, I don’t really understand your question re Jesus’ crucifixion. We’ve got several different writers in the bible who all say he was crucified, we’ve got the Romans who think he was crucified, we’ve got Josephus who thinks he was crucified and there are several other (less explicit) writings that indicate he was crucified.
Arguing against the proposition, we’ve got…emm…nothing.
So, considering we’re talking about something that happened 2000 years ago, that’s a mountain of evidence far as I can see. Especially as there’s no evidence against the proposition so therefore there’s no reason to doubt it.
to answer the OP you must first answer this: if god is omnipotent and almighty can it kill another god?
First off: I didn’t post my last comments three times on purpose, sorry.
I guess I’m just asking this: since no one can provide any evidence that there is any god whatsoever, why debate questions about fictional characters? Are you are doing so in the same way that a book club would debate the fiction they are reading? If you are, and are willing to admit that, then I have no problem with that.
I do have a big problem, however with adults deluding themselves. Especially since those same adults vote for politicians, run big companies, run this country, raise children, etc. Things that effect me directly.
SimonX. PLease find an elementary logic course at your local community college and rush right out to sign up for it. It is not difficult at all for me to posit that no god exists, since there is no evidence to the contrary. You, on the other hand, along with all other theists over the past 100,000 years, have not been able to show any proof of your gods.
Pretty simple, really. Just like some of the… (oh, nevermind)
To say there is no evidence of there being a God is a bit misleading. There is some evidence, whether it is enough to convince the likes of you, is another issue.

Positing is different than proving.
It’s just as easy to posit that there is a god, since there is no evidence to the contrary.
The followers of the B’Hai faith and of Maher Baba all believe in the Universality of all religions. They believe that Zoroaster, Ram, Krishna, Buddah, Jesus, and Mohammed are all divine messengers, or ‘major incarnations’ of God. They also believe in ‘lesser’ incarnations, including Abraham, Moses (I think) and others scattered around the world. One of the basic tenents is that God needs to come down and visit Earth approx. every 600 years. The incarnations are in different locations, at different times, and thus spread a different message that the world needs at the time.
And we have a new record! Not one but two, I say TWO, links in one posting. TWO LINKS to hateful bigoted intolerant websites!
No surprise. Of course, you’re going to say that about any site that points out the differences and reasons why Muslims and Christians don’t worship the same God. That’s a given. So they put forth what they believe to be true after examination of the Bible and the claims of Islam and that makes them hateful, intolerant, bigoted, etc. etc. Yeah, I’ve heard it all before. Do you really consider what’s being said and the reasons given why they can’t be the same? Anway… whateve you say.
Look-Jews worship the God of Abraham.
So do Christians.
So do Muslims.
Sounds like it, to me. Now, you can claim that two of those religions or whatever aren’t the “true” religion, but it would seem that they are all connected.
Remember-everyone believes their religion is the “right” one.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t believe it.
Oh, and His? This Eric Barger or whoever it seems is pretty much a nut. For crying out loud, according to him C.S. Lewis and Tolkien were pagan!
Actually, there are numerous ways that the differences can be noted, explored and discussed w/o crossing over into the territory of bigotry. It’s very hard to keep such a discussion on track when it starts from ignorance.
The sites that you provided have many factual inaccuracies. With incorrect premises, it is nigh impossible to reach correct conclusions.
Please don’t blame Monty’s response on some sort of prejudice on his part toward your citations. There is ample reason to believe that he is reacting in earnest to the info presented after sufficient examination and thoughtfulness.
Got it in one, SimonX–on both counts. I read both of those sites and discovered they have no basis in fact.
Is this a squid phrase?
Or is it some Cali phrase?
A golf phrase?
Squid? Please, I hail from Monterey (after moving there, of course). It’s Calamari.
It’s a phrase I’ve heard all my life and I didn’t grow up in California. It has the meaning of “you got it in one try.” In other words: “Correct on the first go.”
Elucidate.
Why is it “of course?” Why is it “a given?”
No, it’s the touting of lies in their preaching that makes them hateful, etc. You’ve heard it, but have you bothered to listen to it? Have you bothered to check it?
This comment belongs on the “Page o’ Irony.”
You are proposing that there is more than one God.
No, there isn’t. But that doesn’t stop people from worhipping or believing in false gods. You can make a god out of anything you give all your devotion and time to, but that doesn’t make it the true God. Same goes with Buddha, Krishna, Muhammad, Ra, Venus, Kali, etc.etc. Worshipping them doesn’t make them the true God.
