"The Sarah Jane Adventures" US premiere "The Bane Invasion" (SPOiLERS)

[QUOTE=Wikipedia]
Sarah Jane has her own sonic screwdriver, disguised as a lipstick, which she refers to as “sonic lipstick”. The official website notes that the Doctor left the lipstick, along with a “watch that scans for alien life” for Sarah Jane hidden inside K-9 Mark IV. The watch is capable of identifying alien species and their home planets, and the sonic lipstick is apparently “useless as a lipstick”.

The wheres and whyfors aren’t too important, and some of the mysteries get clarified as the show goes on.

Except for Luke, but you really will have to watch Invasion of the Bane for his explanation.

OK, so I dind’t see “The Bane Invasion,” we started with “Revenge of the Slitheen” … I dunno why our TiVo didn’t pick up the pilot.

In any case, we were mightily confused, and I’m hoping someone can clarify for us. So far as we remember (and our memory is pretty faulty nowadays), we last saw Sarah Jane being left behind by the Doctor, but she kept K-9. Now suddenly she’s got a sonic lipstick, an omniscient computer, and a kid named Luke. So my question is: huh? Can someone 'splain?

I’ll try.

Sarah Jane and K-9 were originally spun off in the early 80s. Apparently that is where the computer originated. So my only details is that it is alien tech. K-9 is being spun off to a kids show sometime soon, so they are not using him in this show except rarely. He is off in space stopping up a black hole apparently.

I believe she explained the sonic lipstick was a present from the Doctor.

The kid was introduced in the 90 minutes premier. An alien race was planning to take over the world using a soft drink (please see the Slurm references above). These aliens created a human child with the knowledge of 10000 humans so we have a naive but hyper knowledgeable pre-teen. Sarah Jane as adopted Luke and Maria helped Sarah Jane and is continuing to act as her helper.

Thanks!

Yay! It’s my 3 year old’s first scifi show! She loves it - keeps asking for more episodes, so we’ve had to try to explain television schedules to her. (I guess she’s gotten spoiled by our habit of renting old TV shows on DVD!) We were a little nervous that some of the aliens rushing about scenes might be too scary for her, and so we’d pause it and ask, “Is this too scary? Should we stop?” and she’d say, “No, it’s not scary.” :smiley:
