Renee:
Anyone know the real average number of pills the average 65 year old takes? Several people said ten, and I was going to guess three. Ten seems crazy-high to me–sixty five isn’t all that old. Surely a great deal of 65 y/o are in fine health and take nothing, which would bring the average down, right?
Well, one thing that was bringing up the numbers for me were the number of non-prescription pills a lot of people take: Daily multi-vitamin, one or two calcium supplement pills, and then a small aspirin dose for heart health, and that’s four pills, right there - without anything being prescribed, and with a minimum of OTC supplements.
Add in any health concern, high blood pressure for example, or mental illness, and that can start going up very quickly.

My dad takes six that I can think of right off the top of my head and he’s 62.

Excuse me, but there are countries in the world where “aspirin” is a registered trademark of the Bayer company. That would make “aspirin” a “brand name,” wouldn’t it?

I didn’t say Thalidomide because, although it was taken off the market for a time, it was put back on it, and is still being used today. Just so you know.
And Canada. The generic ASA is used up here, if it’s not produced by Bayer. I don’t think I’ve seen a bottle of Aspirin in over 20 years, actually, since the generics are cheaper.

Dang, 27th place. I’ve not been doing all that well lately.
Sucking at this feud feels much better than sucking at the other ones, though. I don’t know great amounts of stuff about drug use? Meh, I can live with that one.
