The Senate torture report

You are welcome to point out any inaccuracies, withholdings or misrepresentations in that report in this thread.
You did read the report before making such accusations, correct?

You can justify torture all you want, but some of the things the CIA did went beyond torture to pure sadism. What sort of sick mind comes up with “rectal feeding”?

Not saying it’s a bad thing to remember an historic event, having annual grief-fests over it and using it to start illegal wars and torture is wrong.

I find it troubling that you can discern my thoughts about the Congressional partisan report when my post did not once use the words “Congressional” “Partisan” or “report” My post was simply showing my amusement that you would think heads of an Agency that tortured human beings would tell the truth about the effectiveness of said torture, especially when confronted with the fact that it may not have been effective.

Must have missed the part about breaking their feet and legs first. Haven’t read that. Is that legit, or are you assuming that happened?

I don’t know if they broke the legs/feet on purpose (or if they were already broken upon capture), but the claim that folks with broken legs/feet were made to be in stress positions is legitimately in the report.

Meh, that’s not as bad as waterboarding.

It was a broken foot - two different prisoners. Although they also “walled” a guy with a prosthetic leg too.

A special place in jail for the “medical professionals” that evaluated these guys and finally determined they could no longer “maintain that position”.

The programs in question have ALREADY BEEN STOPPED!

That the report should not have been released.

So it’s all cool, right?

as far as what actions should be taken, yes. Can’t can’t stop something that has already been stopped. so, there must be another agenda. What is it?

If someone has already robbed a bank, does that mean we just drop the subject?

Ollie Ollie Oxen Free!

There’s no way anyone will ever rob a bank again, and there’s nothing we can possibly learn from the experience about how to keep it from happening again anyway, so…yeah.

Bringing the criminals to justice, for one thing. You’re in favor of that, right?

Deterring their successors - in some cases, *themselves *- from doing it again.

This isn’t all that advanced a concept.

We? Who is this “we” you speak of? The best way to prove that we do not side with these bastards is to hang them like the war criminals they are.

Those six former CIA heads you mention have it in their power to prove that torture works. Any time they want they could bring out the evidence that proves the Congressional report to be complete bullshit - yet they don’t. Instead, they hide behind threats of some vague boogey man that’ll get us all if we ask questions. Why doesn’t one of the former heads grow a pair and step forward to correct all these mistakes?

We are not in sixth grade anymore. These are men were paid to do a job and they decided it would be expedient to break the law and lie about it. The most stunning part to me is how many people think we should just accept that without question. Because of 'mericia or something.

You said my three words “reveal the findings” were nonsense. I assume this means that you think the findings should not have been revealed.

I disagree. In order to avoid the mistakes of the past, we need to understand them. Including the details.

Really? They have the power to declassify any document/information they want, no matter how detrimental that would be to the nation’s security? Hell, skip the “detrimental” part. Do those six former CIA heads have it in their power to declassify ANY document at all?
