The service Messenger (netguarder.com). How to erase?

So, recently, a message pops up every now and then. The header is in Swedish, so I’ll translate:

“PM from the service MESSENGER. [then a lot of gibberish and finally a URL: netguarder.com
It’s a grey box, easy to click and close, but where the hell does it originate?
I have ad-aware and spybot and have run both. I have ZoneAlarm and I’ve tried searching the registry, but can’t find it. I try to find properties but I cqan’t find that either.

Obviously some spyware, but if any doper has a solution, I’d be happy.

Also: I’m not talking about windows or MSN messenger, this is just a grey dialogue box.

That sounds an awful lot like the Messenger Service to me. The text I get when I message myself is:

Title Bar:
"Messenger Service"
Dialog Text:
**"Message from NP_COMPLETE_COMPUTERNAME to NP_COMPLETE_COMPUTERNAME on 11/15/2003 10:26:32 AM

Hello"**

In a plain grey dialog with just an OK button. I’m using an English version of Windows, so there’s no translation and I don’t know exactly what the text would be in the Swedish version.

If this is what you’re seeing, you need to disable the service named Messenger. If you’re running Windows 2000 or Windows XP, run “services.msc” (from Run, on the start menu), select the service named Messenger. Double-click the service name, and change the startup type from Automatic to Disabled.

If you’re running NT4, you can disable it in a similar way, using the Services Administrative Tool.

Here are Microsoft’s directions on disabling Messenger

Another alternative would be to use a firewall of some type, because if you’re vulnerable to Messenger spam, then you’re vulnerable to all types of worms and hacks as well. Even after you disable Messenger, you’ll probably want to use a firewall of some sort.

It sounds exactly like the messenger service to me, but if Zonealarm is letting that through, it either sucks or it’s configured wrong. :-/

When you first install ZoneAlarm on a windows XP system, it goes nuts asking you about various services and whether they should be allowed to use the connection or not. If you accidentally (or unknowingly) give a service carte blanche, ZoneAlarm will never protect you from it again.

I have five processes called “svchost” running right now. Do they all need to be running? Probably not. Do I know which ones I can safely kill? Nope.

Yup, but I only allow about 10 programs/services to connect.
It’s probably something that came with kazaa or some such, but it’s popping up every 30 minutes now. Netguarder.com is known for ad-ware/spy-ware. I just gotta figure out how they got in and how to get rid of them.
I googled and found info on a registry key, that’s supposed to be the cause of the problem, but regedit can’t find that key.
