The Simpsons Classic Madness - round 2

Before this goes any further and fusoya starts thinking I’m really pissed, I want to make it clear that I’m having a lot of fun with this thread and he’s done a great job setting up these brackets. And if choosing between Deep Space Homer and Homie the Clown is hard, picking the best 64 of the first 178 episodes is much more daunting and he did really well. I mentioned that several of my favorites were left out, but there are so many good ones that even I didn’t notice at first.

Oh, me too, for sure. This is just hard because there are so many great Simpson episodes. We should definitely do another madness thread after this one.

I’m thinking about running a parallel classic Simpsons madness round after round 2 ends, with the first 32 episodes nominated by fellow voters. The 16 which come through after voting will be put against the 16 which come through in this round.

Unless someone volunteers to run their own 64 episode (different eps than mine) tournament, and my winner can face off against yours…

oh and Realty Bites was produced by Mike Scully in season 9, thus making it post-classic. Its one of the better episodes of the season, but the amputation of Kirk is a sure sign that Groening had left the building by then…

I’m not sure how you are defining ‘left the show,’ which you also mentioned in the previous thread, but Matt Groening is still involved with the show. The arm thing was the work of George Meyer, who is responsible for more great Simpsons jokes than anybody. According to the DVD commentary for the episode, the piano wire was originally going to cut Kirk’s sandwich perfectly in half.

I could probably swing it. I’ll wait until this Madness is over and then put it up.

Will give me time to work on the seeding (which I’m sure some of you will howl at, so I apologize in advance).

and Marley - Matt left the show before season 9 in order to work on Futurama, and was gone for the next 5 years or so (he was still technically on staff, but gave more of a shit about his new show, which is why Futurama had 4 quality seasons)…I think after the show was cancelled, Matt continued to not give much of a shit about The Simpsons and still only shows his face in their studio occasionally (although he was fully involved in the Simpsons movie, which used a separate staff from the television episodes).
