The Simpsons' Theme Song

I haven’t been able to find who sings the words “The Simp…sonssssss” in the opening of the Danny Elfman theme for the Simpsons.

Anyone have any idea who did those vocals?

No idea. I always figured that Elfman just used some people he knew who could sing or something like that.

Wow.

Fantastic question. I’m eagerly awaiting the answer to this.

While we’re waiting, I have a somewhat related anecdote.

When my son was still young enough to need help in the bathroom, we would let him alone to do his business and then he’d call us in to finish up. One night, just before The Simpsons came on, he went in and sat on the toilet. A moment later, when the theme began to play, we heard, “The Simpsonnnns…” “Need a wipe!” No way the kid was going to miss his favorite show just to take a crap! Ever since then, in our family, The Simpsonnnnns and Need a wipe! are mentally linked.

We may have to camp out by Groening’s car to get the answer to this one…

Since he’s answered a Simpsons-based music question for this board before, I’ve decided to do the next best thing: e-mail Alf Clausen, the man who has composed and conducted the music for the show since the second season and who arranged and conducted the theme song. I will let you know if and when I recieve a response.

You’re the best!

I’m putting my money on Ye Olde Fox Studio Musicians, Choral Division.

I’m gonna go with some Elfman cronies. Since the theme itself is his…maybe he rounded up some of the regulars that provide the “Ahhhhs” for most of his other songs.

We used the theme in sightreading class as an example of a tritone.
