The Sixburgh Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Well I’m full of news today (usually I’m full of something else). Dwayne Bowe has been suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Could the Chiefs possibly get any worse? I don’t think so.

Yeah, and Antwan Odom got held on every play, thus rupturing his achilles.

Bestest video evah!

Wow, that’s a shame. The “bestest video evah!” for a Bengals fan is a highlight film of a win in a regular season game.

Here, let me show you some videos of important games:

Santonio Holmes Game Winning Touchdown, Super Bowl XLIII

Willie Parker’s 75-yard touchdown run, Super Bowl XL

I wouldn’t want to overdo it with the videos and kill your once-a-decade buzz, so I’ll stop there. Rest assured, though, there’s lots more where those came from. What else do you have, a video of the Ickey Shuffle or something?

Now, now, no need to get nasty. :stuck_out_tongue:

(And if you really want to make us cry, just mention Montana to Taylor, or put up THAT video…)

Testy, testy, aren’t we? Are you sure you aren’t THIS guy?

And yeah, no Montana to Taylor videos, please.

I don’t need a Niners video to make you cry.

Awaits the inevitable whining about that play, too…

Whining? There’s no whining to it. Whether you view the play as a cheap shot or not (I think its pretty questionable the way Kimo wraps his hand around Palmer’s ankle and then drives his shoulder through the leg, adding a twist at the end, but that’s just me), there shouldn’t be any celebration regarding such a career-threatening injury. I don’t wish injury on any Steelers players or any other team’s player. The guy in the video in my last post with the “soft helmet” beanie on his head (which I think he needs) laughs about Palmers injury.

It isn’t funny. But beating you twice in one year is. The trifecta would be even sweeter still. Here’s hoping to make you the Ravens of 2008!

I don’t know about funny, but rare is certainly true. Here’s looking forward to making you the Bengals of 2005.

That can’t happen. Yes, we could lose to the Steelers in the playoffs like 2005, yes, we could even potentially have Palmer knocked out of a playoff game against the Steelers also like 2005 (God forbid)…but this team as a whole is so far removed from the 2005 team its almost a silly comparison.

We actually have a real defense now, we didn’t then. We have a good defensive coordinator now, we didn’t then. The players are completely beholden to the team concept now, they weren’t all then. All the cancerous players have been removed or rehabilitated (Henry). The team has matured in terms of players and at an organizational level. We blew up the “high-powered Colts-type offense” model of 2005, 06 and 07 and rebuilt the team.

The team is basically a typecast from the Steelers mold, and that’s meant as a compliment. Tough, hardnosed defense and running the ball.

So there’s literally no chance we could be like the 2005 team ever again, which is a good thing for the Bengals, and if it persists, a good thing for the division rivalries in years to come.

Sure they could. They could be sitting at home, watching the Steelers in the Super Bowl after they lose to them in the playoffs. EXACTLY like 2005. Quite LITERALLY like 2005.

Ah, semantics. I already outlined that outcome. Did you not read my post at all?

Sour grapes make the sweetest wine…

Tell me about it. I’ve been drinking Bengals’ Fans Merlot, made from real tears, for a long time. I’ll just have to wait a little longer for this year’s vintage, that’s all.

LOL.

See how easy going back to being civil and joking was, you Air Force puke?

:stuck_out_tongue:

The defense did remind me of the Steelers last weekend. Not just because they played a tough game but also they play a system where it’s more about the scheme and knowing your place than it is about talent. Most of the Steelers defenders will look ordinary in another scheme (Polamalu is the obvious exception). You can see the effect when guys start going down and the defense keeps chugging along just as it did before. For all you hear about exotic blitzes and all that, you won’t actually see many in a Steelers game. The complexity is mostly in the coverage behind the blitz. One big advantage I think the Steelers have had for a while is not just Dick Lebeau but the position coaches have all been there a while and everyone is on the same page. With other teams you get more of a mix and match defense when you start breaking them down by unit.

I think part of the reason the Steelers have been moving to a pass first offense is because of the success of teams within the division at designing their defense specifically to dethrone them. The whole division has been beefing up the interior linemen. I think the Steelers brought in Arians specifically to combat that shift. That’s my theory anyway.

I agree, especially with the bolded part. That’s what having an extra year under a quality defensive coordinator will do for you, and having the players buy into the system. The Bengals defense outside of Rivers, Maulauga and the two corners Joseph and Hall are mostly no-names, lower draft picks and grinders.

Nice observation. And literally quite true. Its also interesting to see how the Bengals have reinvented their offense. We used to be so pass happy, and now we are a much more balanced unit, and Palmer doesn’t have to feel like he has to throw the ball a million times a game for us to win. Having a decent (rebuilt) oline is crucial to that, as well as finding quality at RB (Benson) when there was none after 2006, and then having that defense back you up when you go three and out.

Totally different team, and a pure joy to watch.

Go Steelers! I’m thinking we should win today - even if Troy doesn’t play. (I haven’t heard either way yet.)

I have people coming so I won’t be back until after.

Troy’s out. No other notable inactives today.

If they lose this game they don’t deserve to make the playoffs this year. Apparently the field is in really bad shape. The Steelers should be accustomed to that.

At this rate, they better not score a lot of Field Goals or the Chiefs will run up the score on them.

Josh Freeman is the second coming of Ben Roethlisberger. I doubt the Bucs-Saints game is being shown elsewhere much, but he just made an incredible Benesque move in the pocket to escape two rushers, rolled left (he’s right handed) and threw a perfect touchdown in the corner of the endzone.
