The Sixburgh Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Special teams has allowed a run back for a touchdown in 8 straight games. Even when they don’t, they allow big field position.

I agree with pretty much everything else you’ve written here, but giving up back to back 20+ yard pass plays on the one drive, and allowing the tight end to be wide open on a drive before that, and then the number of whiffs or failures to wrap up tackles that I saw today, and I have no problem giving the defense their fair share of blame for this loss. They gave up 20 points to the Chiefs for christ’s sake.

I hope that Aryans departs us soon in any way possible.

I think it was only 4. Forcier dropped the ball inside the 1 yard line and Ohio St, dropped on it for 1/3 of their points.

Yes, you’re right on all counts. Just a disappointing performance all round. Some guys were able to boost their stats; I hope they’re really fucking satisfied with that. The biggest disppointment of the day was Ike Taylor. Whiffed a tackle on the opener and then dropped an easy interception that could have ended the big drive.

Bruce Arians called a sweep on third and short with the slowest of the three running backs which failed and dropped us out of field goal range. Inexcusable. That was downright fucking retarded. I still can’t believe that call. We’re better off with Ben calling the plays himself.

Wow! That’s pretty bad. I bet most teams don’t give up 8 runbacks in an entire season .

Looks like the Steelers are going fishing for a QB, now that Ben’s status is uncertain and Batch is out for awhile:

Steelers start to make calls about quarterbacks
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 23, 2009 12:25 PM ET

*With Charlie Batch expected to miss six weeks of action and Ben Roethlisberger’s status up in the air, the Steelers are working on finding quarterback depth.

NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports the team has begun to make calls, including one to Cleo Lemon. It’s uncertain how serious the team’s interest level is in Lemon.

Even if Roethlisberger is able to play this week, the team may want another body around to learn the system as insurance. Injured reserve sounds like an option for Batch.

UPDATE: Old buddy Aaron Wilson reports for NFP that Jeff Garcia has also been called by the Steelers. The team is expected to conduct a tryout Tuesday.*

If they bring in Garcia they have to be really careful. Ben will get PISSED if Garcia even winks in Hines Ward’s direction, let alone tries to seduce his lover.

Joey Harrington is on his couch right now, and the Bucs would probably let them have Leftwich back for a seventh-rounder.

They may be talking to other QBs but Jason LaCanfora has been so wrong so many times I wouldn’t put any stock in anything he says. He’s the same guy who said Casey Hampton was going to be released in the preseason. Because, of course, there are so many other dominant 3-4 NTs out there who can anchor the most vital spot on your D around which the success of the entire unit depends. Ben won’t be out anyway. Insider reports are that the media is greatly exaggerating Polamalu’s injury as well.

On preview, Leftwich played surprisingly well behind a worse version of this line. I was hoping they’d bring him back anyway.

I had not heard that Ben was uncertain. I knew he had dinged his neck, but didn’t know how serious it was.

Nor did I know that Batch was out. I missed whatever happened to Batch. Looks bad for the rest of the season then.

Batch injured his wrist. Not sure when it happened. The locker room reporters said Ben was quite lucid following the game. The third guy, Dennis Dixon, has a lot of support within the team. I think they would start him over most guys off the street; they’d probably like to have Leftwich though.

I’d bet that Ben plays (reports are that he got a mild concussion) and the Steelers are just looking for depth.

I’m metaphorically willing to be that this is the case. Ben has such a reputation around here for, well, seeming to be more injured than he ends up being that on my 8 year old’s football team, the coaches took to calling kids “Roethlisberger” when they appeared to be exaggerating an injury.

Perhaps that’s not fair to a guy who regularly takes big hits, but there it is.

The little bit of Dennis Dixon I’ve seen, I’ve liked. Although he is certainly a project playing QB at this point, I think he’s got a chance to be good. He shouldn’t be starting, but you could do worse.

Dixon surely wouldn’t be ready for the Ravens. I’m predicting a call to Jeff Garcia.

Thank you. Coming from a Steelers fan, this is one hell of an admission!

“Garcia” is pronounced with a “th” sound.

Haha, he’ll get along nicely with Drama Queen Roethlisberger. Just win games, that’s all I ask of them.

To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, starring Ben Rothlisberger, Jeff Garcia and Hines Ward!

OK, I’ve beaten that dead horse joke like a Cleveland Brown. I’ll stop now.

Jeff Garcia’s wife (NSFW)

I’ll trust Terrell Owens’ word as a former teammate of Garcia’s over some photoshopped internet urban myth, thanks.
