Check out Casey Hampton’s reaction at the end of the failed sweep on 3rd and 2. Think he feels the same way the rest of us do about the call?
Culled from another board:
Roethlisberger may sit out Sunday
Posted by Michael David Smith on November 27, 2009 6:19 PM ET
*Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger might not play on Sunday after all.
Although Roethlisberger practiced Friday and reportedly passed all the necessary medical tests, he is now reportedly considering taking a week off because of concerns related to the concussion he suffered last week in Kansas City.
Jason La Canfora of NFL Network cites an unnamed league source as saying that Roethlisberger told Steelers coach Mike Tomlin today that he might sit out Sunday’s game against the Ravens as a precaution.
According to La Canfora, Roethlisberger told Tomlin he fears getting hit in the head again just a week after suffering a concussion. Roethlisberger plans to tell the team on Saturday morning whether he thinks he’s ready to go.
If Roethlisberger sits out, the Steelers will have a major question mark at quarterback. With backup Charlie Batch out with a wrist injury, Dennis Dixon would start in place of Roethlisberger. Dixon has played in only one NFL game and thrown just one pass.

I won’t comment on LaCanmoron much since I’ve already made my view on him well known. Personally, I would like to see Ben sit it out but it’s such a big game for them that it’s a tough decision. They have worked out Patrick Ramsey and Todd Bouman in case there are injuries this weekend to deal with. It also appears Charlie Batch might not miss as much time as initially feared. It was his non-throwing hand that was injured and he could be back in 2-4 weeks. That’s why they’re saving his roster spot.
I don’t know anything about any of these blogger/quasi-journalist guys. I’m just seeing some stuff, and posting it for your perusal.
Personally, I think Ben should play. Its against the lowly Ravens with that pathetically soft defense. I mean, what could happen, right?
I know. LaCanfora isn’t a blogger though. He has full-blown reporter access and reports on NFL network frequently. He’s no more reliable than a blogger though.
Haha, I know you have Ben’s best interests at heart too.
Jay Glazer is reporting that Dennis Dixon will get the start this week. Go Duck!
Interesting. The Steeler site still reports that Ben will start. But that was posted yesterday.
Well, this is a golden opportunity for Dixon to show his stuff and maybe get a starting job with another team.
I am apprehensive about this week, to say the least. Still, if Pittsburgh wins they’re in the lead for the wild card, and something’s up with the Ravens this year. I think the Steelers will win, but it won’t be a runaway.
I’m not joining the Jason La Canfora fan club yet but it looks like he was right on this one. Ben will be the third QB behind Dixon and Palko; Shaun McDonald will be released according to Dale Lolley’s blog.
It’s unlikely the team wins this one but it could be a lot worse. For all the respect the Ravens get (and have earned), it’s true that you are what your record says you are and the Ravens are a 5-5 team with serious issues in their secondary. I see this as a game with the potential to turn things around for this team. They’ve built up a head of steam in the wrong direction and this could be a chance to regain the spark that’s been missing all season. They don’t need to win to get that fire back; they need to play with the intensity that we’ve come to expect. Winning would be a nice bonus though.
If they win the turnover battle, they win the game. I don’t make many predictions but I really believe that will be the case.
I’m kinda curious why they’d dress Ben at all. Even if the game starts to get out of hand for the Steelers its unlikely he’d play…why not keep him off the 45 man roster and add someone else at another position for depth? The Ravens play physical football, the chance of injury is high.
Looks like ben is out because of “exercise-induced headaches.”
Well, as the 3rd QB he won’t be on the 45 man roster.
The biggest thing going for the Steelers in that respect is that Terrell Suggs is out. He has really been the only Raven to give Ben a hard time in recent meetings. I think with him out and their secondary depleted they saw an opportunity but obviously they had to change plans. I really believe they signed Corey Ivy just so the Ravens couldn’t bring him back after Fabien Washington got injured. I’m sure they would like to target some of the Ravens depth at corner. With Ed Reed out there and an inexperienced QB that doesn’t look as appealing anymore.
They’ll be fine. They’ll just use the same system they used when Ben won 13 in a row as a rookie: the coaches will call every play, and Dixon may pass maybe 10 times in a game.
Now’s a perfect time for it too, with Mewelde, Parker and Mendenhall healthy, they could get 60 carries between them.
I hope you’re right but I don’t think this offensive line can control the game the way that offensive line could. Now would be a very good time for them to establish the running game. So for we’ve only seen big production on the ground against weaker opponents. Luckily the Ravens have had some struggles replacing Bart Scott, in the run game at least.
Yep, I like our chances against the Ravens this year. They’re older and slower than in years past. The only thing they’re good at nowadays is whining.
I am concerned - not Troy, no Ben, the Ravens are 5-5, but cannot be counted out, especially with a much depleted team.
Go Steelers!
Really? If that’s true and both QB’s ahead of Ben leave the game with an injury, then how does he play?
That’s the only we he can play I think - if the two starters go down. Better explanation than I can make about the “46 man roster”.
While I wouldn’t mind not seeing Ben, if they decide to keep all 3 QBs active, they can put him in whenever they want to. The first 2 out rule is for a QB that was declared inactive… I believe.
