The Sixburgh Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

There was also a completely made up “defensive delay of game” call (a penalty I don’t even think actually exists) and a whole bunch of ignored holding and pass interference by the Steelers.

The tripping call, all by itself, cost the Vikings the game, though.

The tripping call was BS, but the Vikings had the game in hand.Reminds me alot of last years Superbowl, sometimes the better team loses.

The announcers read the definition of the defensive delay of game penalty on the air.

Not only that, it was called against the Steelers in the Philly/Pitt game in 08.

I was kidding about the rule not existing. It was still a phantom call, though.

I don’t see how you could know that- it can be called if a defender is simulating the quarterback’s cadence, for example. I think that’s why it was called in the Steelers/Eagles games Khadaji just mentioned, in fact.

The defensive delay of game is a call that has gone against the Steelers several times in the past. Still not a frequent penalty but one I’ve seen go against James Harrison a few times and Farrior too if I remember correctly. I think they get a few warnings about that before it actually gets flagged. The announcers were talking out of their ass on that one, not with the description of the penalty but when they said they usually catch that one. The times it’s come against the Steelers they always had to pick it up on the replay just like the rest of us. It’s weird to see it on an opposing team though because it’s usually crowd noise that leads the defensive guys to believe they can get a guy to flinch by doing it. Maybe in this case it was a bad call too though. I never saw a replay and don’t know one way or the other on this one.

The defense did nothing visible.

There was, IIRC, almost 7 minutes left with the tripping call, which was more than enough time for Vikings to come back and turnover the ball - twice. Shitty, but they lost as much for their own reasons as for that penalty.

In other news: four consecutive downs against AP and Favre and only giving up a field goal was pretty impressive. The defense played really well. Maybe not lights out but very solid.

The offense? Well, I’ll have to wait and see a replay of the game to see what was going on in the Vikings secondary but the lack of deep throws was perplexing. I’m guessing they inverted the safeties or something but I couldn’t see with those camera angles. The Vikings have been giving up a lot of underneath yardage and Arians seemed to want to go after that right away. The problem is you have to set up the deep passes first before they’ll give up the underneath zones.

Yes, the Vikings must have lost because of “phantom” defensive delay of game. Mind you, it isn’t something you SEE, it’s something you HEAR, but hey, must have been phantom cause it went against the Vikings.

Of course, the Vikings will have had all sorts of holding calls NOT called against them for holding Harrison. :stuck_out_tongue:

The Vikings lost because they fucked up. Screaming about the refereeing when your team loses is just bad sportsmanship.

It’s the refs. It’s always the refs. Always.

It’s certainly not the two long interception returns for touchdowns. Nah, couldn’t be.

All I hear is “whine, whine, whine”. It sounds like Charlie Brown’s teacher up in here.

Enjoy your stolen victory. We’ll see who gets to the Superbowl.

Spare me. You got nothing.

Get over it. Nobody likes a sore loser.

GO BLACK AND GOLD!!!

Actually, I’d love to see a rematch in the Super Bowl. It was one of the better games I’ve seen all season.

Well, usually it’s you Steeler fans complaining about the refs, but yeah.

It probably had more to do with Peterson running for 69 yards on 18 carries than the referee’s calls. The tripping call was dubious, but perhaps they were evening it up by ignoring the holding that let Harvin get to the sideline and blow by Jeff Reed’s pat-down on the kickoff return for a touchdown.

Roethlisberger looked really off today. I thought Mendenhall was looking really good until he gave the ball away and let the Vikings have a chance to steal away the game. Overall, another game that the Steelers dominated but had the chance to lose at the end. It would be really nice to feel confident at some point about at least one game this year.

That was pathetic. I like Jeff Reed but you have to do more than that, especially if you’re a kicker who can never kick off into their endzone.

In his defense, he wasn’t shitfaced. He can only be aggressive when he’s all liquored up.
