The Skycar is airborne

It looks like the Jetsons are right around the corner.

The science fair project that would not die. How long has this guy been working on this thing? I can remember seeing it on the cover of Popular Science 15 years ago, and it was “just about to enter production”

Oh BS! It ain’t a flying car until it has no major moving parts! Don’t give me any of the “propeller” crap. That is not what anyone born in the last sixty years imagined. I want Back to the Future* DeLorean hovering on overturned tires. Until then, don’t even try to fool yourself or others; it ain’t a flying car, it is an ugly airplane.

Cool!

It can’t be the Jetsons though, because the Skycar probably doesn’t make the proper b-b-b-rreeeee noise.

I don’t know how serious they are but these guys have been around for years. I don’t have too much confidence that they will ever succeed, but at least they have the right idea of what a “flying car” is and should be.

I’m pretty impressed that Moller’s making progress. I’ve been reading about his Skycar for maybe twenty years (how it’s always “nearly ready for production”). It’s still a really, really long way from actually being available to the public, however. I still have my doubts it’ll ever be available for purchase.

And I thought that it was an improvement on the original “Sky Car,” the W.P. Kindree version.

Among other things, Hovertech claims to be able to produce a magnetic monopole. This is slightly less credible than a claim of cold fusion.
That combined with the fact that their magnetcraft are designed around the same principle that Marvel Comics uses to explain Magneto’s flight make me leary.

Yes, you are right. The point is that they are less delusional then the guy thinking that he can successfully pass off that mechanical thing as an acceptable flying car.

I would think that you’d be more interested in attempts to build ornithopters capable of carry human passengers.

[five year old whine]But it’s not supposed to have moving parts!!![/fyow]
