Can you recommend a repudiation of his work?
You can read several effective criticism right on Amazon. These are not the usual “He sux” reviews, but people who have read far more than Mosier. The lead review used to be a very good one.
There’s also the fact that Mosier tries to present old hat as new material (The Blitzkrieg myth is an example of this - most of the ‘myth’ he’s claiming to bust was busted years ago) and still manages to screw up the job.
Worse still, he takes an offensive tone when explaining his (allegedly poor) choice of source material in his book, while in the end notes he tries to defend his efforts, badly.
I’m not a great critic and even I can see massive holes and mistakes in TBM. That alone should speak volumes. When I can see the writer hiding potential data right ont he words on the page I have to suspect something is rotten in the conclusions.
As one who has, while sitting at dinner next to a gent who pointed at the book I held that claimed to be about the Fokker DVII and who said, “You know, I used to fly them…,” I think I can safely say that they’d come to a draw.
Sorry, all of you who think WWI ended in 1918.
We tend not to be outspoken but we know who our best friend is and appreciate it.
