Yeah, on some level Grandpa knows this might be his last Christmas. So we’ve got to be careful not to let him alone with the younger grandkids–he likes to “grab.” His “gifts” are stingy & weird. He might get drunkenly unbalanced & crash into the table–wasting a bunch of the food. And he dislikes his daughter’s ban on smoking in her house–so he might fall asleep with a ciggy in the guest room & burn the place down.
Unfortunately, it’s going to be a stressful & expensive holiday season.

Yes, this really is a case of a certain group of single-issue-voters being more loud, populous, and obnoxious than their opposite. If many of the people in favor of gun control were single-issue gun control voters, you’d have a point. But they aren’t. Instead, there are a tiny handful of single-issue gun control voters, who will refuse to vote for any candidate who isn’t anti-gun, and almost all of them were die-hard liberals bound to vote for the Democrats or the Greens to begin with, so there’s little point in pandering to them. By contrast, there is apparently a very large number of single-issue gun rights voters, many of which come from varied backgrounds and may very well vote democrat if we didn’t want to take away their fucking fetish. There’s a clear political advantage in grabbing the vote from the fervent minority instead of hoping for the vote from the largely apathetic majority.
