The Soundbug

This nifty little device has just come to my attention, and my immediate reaction is, “Gimme!” I know it’s pretty new, but has anyone heard or seen anything (good or bad) about it? Dare I hope some intrepid geek has bought and used one? C’mon, folks, I’m trying to justify buying myself a couple here.

I think it’s an interesting idea, Trucido- but I’m a little wary of anything that attaches with suction cups. In my experience, suction cups don’t reliably stay on the target- they eventually unstick. I think something that vibrates, like the Soundbug (Band name!), would just fall off even sooner…

I bought one and bascially, it’s useless. Imagine taking a pair of headphones and then smashing them down to the table, with like the heel of your hand, or a heavy book. Some of the sound from the headphones will make the table vibrate, amplifying the sound, as wood is a better sound conductor than air. However, it’s still only audible from like 5 feet away. And the fidelity is “terrible”! Like putting a boom box inside a big tin can, then turning the volume down to like 1 or 2 and the bass all the way up. And wearing earplugs. GLARHGH. Horrible.
