A germphobe, a germ denier and RFK Jr. enter a bar and ask for bleach on the rocks.
They get it - do you?
As long as the punchline contains actual punches, I’m sure it will be very funny.
I just watched an eight-minute YouTube video with Ian Bremmer discussing the Signal chat in question.
A point that he raises that, IMHO, doesn’t get enough attention is (3m45s in) that JD Vance questioned the wisdom of the bombing and its timing, implying that Trump probably hadn’t been fully briefed on the subject, only to be summarily shut down by White House Deputy Chief of Staff For Policy, Stephen Miller.
Bremmer only emphasizes what we all already know: that Trump 2.0 will brook no dissent whatsoever, and that Herr Miller can essentially veto JD Vance in a globally critical policy decision.
I’m assiduously avoiding giving Vance any credit whatsoever here for drifting close to “adult in the room” territory. You’re welcome.
Someone told me this:
as was testified in front of Senate, Signal is used by Intel agencies, on the condition the content is copied to government servers for storage.
I have not heard anything like that. Is this true? Is it a misunderstanding of something that happened?
There’s a lawsuit alleging that this Signal chat constitutes a violation of the Federal Records Act:
In a 16-page filing, nonprofit government transparency organization American Oversight alleges Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and various other Trump administration officials violated the Federal Records Act (FRA) during a multiple-day group chat about how to plan and “coordinate imminent U.S. military strikes in Yemen.”
The second problem is that they can still classify it now… but they are refusing like petulant children. The Atlantic actually is a responsible journalistic entity… they would abide by that decision. The answer is so simple; even a child ought to be able to understand it.
The third issue is that steps need to be taken to strip unsecure apps like ‘signal’ from all the White House phones (with regular IT checks to make sure they stay off) so messages are retained for the National Archives.
( Hey, Obama wasn’t too happy when they said he couldn’t use his Blackberry. )
The Asshole-In-Cheif was just on CNN. Sounds like he might be getting ready to toss Weltz under the bus. He told a reporter that “It was Mike, I guess, I was told that it was Mike” and “Mike took responsibility for this”. Then said something like Hegseth had nothing to do with this…
Hurts my brain.
How many lawsuits is that? Last I saw was there where 80 on going, or backed up.
This is no longer ‘Baffle them with BullShit’. It’s ‘Turn over the cart of Bullshit in the hall so they can’t even get to their office’.
Hegseth is dear to Donald. Hegseth is a bullying narcissistic arrested-development case…just like Donald.
If someone needs to be thrown under the bus it won’t be Hegseth. (If not Mike Waltz, then maybe Tulsi Gabbard; chicks don’t belong in positions of power anyway!)
But I’d wager Donald is still hoping this will blow over. Perhaps Vance and appendage will encounter some Terrible Thing in Greenland this week that will necessitate invasion! THAT would change the subject nicely!
Meanwhile the Trumpites need to keep insisting that because we weren’t at WAR with Yemen, the entire Atlantic premise that WAR PLANS were revealed is a hoax. So there!
Is he taking a boat there…? I’ve heard that flying these days is less safe than it used to be. (Or is he going to intentionally lose his Queen so he can try to put Denmark in check? I always worry when Pumpkinhead puts his Happy Meal toys on the chess board. )
The guys on CNN made the point that if you fire the SoD, new one has to be approved. Not National Security Adviser.
Old Mike better stay away from the Greyhound Depot.
If the people in the cabinet wanted to talk in a way that Trump would never see it, Signal might be of use. I can see how they might want to converse without any chance of it reaching the eyes of their oblivious boss.
I’m thinking, why doesn’t Vance take one for the team, and say it was all his fault? He’s the only one who can’t just be fired, and impeachment will take forever and ultimately fail. Then he has four years to bullshit people into forgetting about this episode.
The ripple effect…
How Europeans are reacting to the Yemen war plans group chat
Europe reacts to Yemen war plans Signal group chat : NPR
…
Some apparent satisfaction was derived from the lapse among some in Europe, as underlined in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.“We can’t have someone in the Oval Office who doesn’t understand the meaning of the word classified,” the newspaper quoted Trump as saying during the 2016 presidential election campaign. Then it showcased his opponent in that race, Hillary Clinton, responding to the Signal revelations on social media: “state scherzando,” in Italian — “You have got to be kidding.”
I’m glad that someone is pursuing this. This seems a blatant violation of the records act.
Marjorie Taylor Greene weighs in. [Post by Occupy Democrats.]
BREAKING: MAGA Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has a humiliating meltdown when confronted by a reporter about SignalGate: “NONONO!”
The Republicans are starting to realize that they’re in deep, deep trouble this time…
“Should the Defense Secretary—” began a reporter.
“What country are you— Wait, what country are you from?” snapped Greene.
“From the UK,” replied the reporter.
“Okay, we don’t give a crap about your opinion and your reporting,” said Greene. “Why don’t you go back to your country where you have a major migrant problem and—”
“NONONO!” Greene continued, talking over the reporter. “You should care about your own borders.”
“Do you care about American lives—” the reporter began.
“Nonono!” said Greene. “No. No. No. Let me tell you something, do you care about people from your country? What about all the women that are raped by migrants?”
“Do you care about—” attempted the reporter.
“No do you care— Okay, you’re done,” stammered Greene. “I’m not— Nope! You know what I don’t care— I don’t—”
“Do you care about American lives being put at risk? About service members fighting for your country?” managed the reporter.
“I don’t care about your fake news. Do you have a relevant question? Yeah, this is an American journalist, thank you,” Green said, turning her attention to someone else.
“Yeah, I’m an American and I would like to hear your answer to what she’s asking,” said the second reporter.
“I’m not answering her question because I don’t care about her network. If you would like to ask I can answer,” said Greene.
“Do you have any concerns whatsoever about the complete disregard of operational security from the top level of this administration?” asked the reporter.
“You want to know about complete disregard about operational security? You should talk about the Biden administration and how they ripped our borders open to terrorists, cartel, child sex trafficking, human trafficking, and drug trafficking across our borders for four years,” said Greene.
“The Trump administration is doing a great job and I stand by their statements,” she added.
“So you have no comment whatsoever?” asked the reporter.
“My comment to you is I’m thankful to President Trump that he is leading us out of wars, that he is ending the war in Ukraine where American lives could have been killed if Joe Biden was still president today whether he liked it or not,” said Greene.
“We’re talking about NPR and PBS today. We’re talking about fake news that was funded with federal funding from American taxpayers,” she continued. “That’s what this is about today. Not journalists from the UK that should care about their own country.”
At that point, Greene fled from the reporters in a desperate attempt to avoid more questions that she lacks the courage to answer.
This pathetic performance from the congresswoman is emblematic of her entire party. These Republicans simply have no excuse for the deeply incompetent actions of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and other top Trump officials.
Obviously, migrants in the United Kingdom have nothing to do with the Trump administration leaking sensitive information about pending attacks in a Signal group chat.
But of course Greene and her ilk are consummate cowards. They will never criticize Trump’s administration because their entire political career is built on pandering to his cult-like followers.
Please like and share!
Thanks Johnny L.A. There is one other thing at play here. They are morons.
Cowardly morons with lots, and lots of power. Just looking for the next hand out/grift.
Heh. I shared the post on FB. This was my comment when sharing it:
Marjorie Taylor Greene is such a coward! (Not to mention stupid.)
ETA: [NB: Greene’s linked name goes to her FB page. I included the tag so that she might see my opinion of her.]
In whatever form it comes. https://theeburgerdude.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Big-Mac-1024x1024.jpg
Are they, though? Nobody was ever held accountable for anything during Trump’s first term. No signs point to anyone being held accountable for anything this time around either.
I wish I could be more optimistic. Somebody tell me if I’m wrong.
