Ground squirrels are en masse killing and eating voles in California, demonstrating once again rodent’s inrodentity to rodent.

This is obviously not this guy’s first vole. Of the day.
It’s amazing how people turned their eyes when it was “just” squirrel-on-squirrel violence but now that voles are suffering, it’s suddenly so important.

Buried crunchy thing that’s high in protein… obviously a nut. It’s not the squirrel’s fault that some nuts are less sedentary than others.
Squirrels/voles…psh, that’s small potatoes.
The real war is raccoons against the possums. And the raccoons have enlisted the aid of the wild boars.
That’s a tough looking squirrel. Ears nibbled to nubs, tail not so bushy, remains from its kill all over the face.
Squirrels are also known to eat turtles.
Looks like maybe a pregnant one needing extra protein for the babies.
So a squirrel is basically just a zombie vole?
…and baby birds, tree frogs, beetles, etc.
And bones.

Ears nibbled to nubs,
That critter has the “don’t fuck with me, I’ve had a HELLUVA day, and imma EAT this f’ing bastard” expression.
Same, buddy. Same.
