Josh Allen has completed only 14 passes, but 4 of them were touchdowns.
He is also averaging 25 yards per completion.

If he threw on every play they’d have hundreds of points!!!

By Tony Dungy’s ears, but that was a blowout.
Well, this season has been up and down. I was at the game last week (club seats on the 40, couldn’t say no to that) and the team played great against Tampa, but that might have been because Tampa is terrible this year. And then tonight, they could have won 3 different times in a game that started out looking like a blowout, but they made too many mistakes.
So here they are at 2-5, way too talented to be at that record but that’s why they play the games. Pickett looks like he could be something special but he makes rookie mistakes, as rookies do. The only receivers worth anything are Pickens, who was the best receiver on the team the moment they called his name on draft day, and Friermuth, the tight end. Claypool is too far up his own ass about how good he is to prove it, and Diontae Johnson is less trustworthy than Fox News. And the offensive coordinator is still calling games like he has an immobile, noodle-armed quarterback under center.
I hate to say it, but this looks like Tomlin’s fist losing year. And it’s killing me every week, because they really should be better. This isn’t a team that lacks ability, or even heart. Just execution from a few guys that are hurting the team.
“Depressing” is the only word I can come up with. ![]()
Well, I was right about the new era. The Steelers aren’t a complete disaster but this season is. They can’t compete with the elite teams and they blew several games by one score that they should have won. The offense is paralyzed by horrible playcalling from Matt Canada. The defense is hurt by the loss of TJ Watt and spending 45 minutes a week on the field.
Just now they traded Chase Claypool to the Bears for a second-round pick, so they got a wash for a guy who could have been the receiver he claimed he was but was too far up his own ass about how good he was to actually prove it on the field. Hopefully he does better in Chicago. He won’t, the Bears are the pits, but you never know.
So, this season has now almost completely become about the future. Tomlin had a season like this in 2013 where they lost Pouncey on the 6th play of the season and started 2-6 but finished 8-8, but this time it feels very different.
Maybe they’re deliberately tanking the season, like the Pens did back in the 80s so they could draft Mario. Any good draft picks coming up?
So it’s time to revisit this thread. I thought the Steelers were dead weeks ago and I was willing to let this die quietly. But things have changed.
Starting this weekend Pittsburgh had a .5% chance at the playoffs. Now they’re up to around 20%, and that’s possibly pessimistic.
Let’s assume that Pittsburgh wins out. They lost to both Baltimore and Cleveland earlier in the season, and it may happen again, but Baltimore is still without Lamar and Cleveland is rolling with Watson, who hasn’t played well since he came back, and Pittsburgh has been playing better of late. So it’s possible.
Miami has to lose out. They go to New England and they get the Jets at home. They may be doing it without Tua, who entered the concussion protocol for the third time this year tonight. If the Dolphins do the right thing and shut Tua down they are a markedly worse team, and those are division games so their opponents both will want to win, also trying to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Then the Jets have to lose to Seattle and New England has to lose to Buffalo in their other games.
None of that is impossible, or even implausible.
It’s a big ask for all of it to happen, but stranger things have happened (witness last year’s craziness). So there is hope, and right now it seems a lot more likely to happen than 20%.
So we’ll see how it goes. First the Steelers need to handle their own business. After that, who knows?
It’s all working out. The big problem is that we have to rely on the freaking Jets to beat Miami. Gotta say, Pickett with the gloves on looks very promising. I always felt Ben lost some touch when he had the gloves on.
Well, the Jets can play spoiler, and they’ll want to because Saleh is that kind of coach (he’ll want the “receipts” for that win). Also, the Dolphins are almost certainly down to their third-string QB, a seventh-rounder from this year’s draft. Washed-up Joe Flacco could probably win that game. I’m hopeful, anyway.
The Patriots are dead. There is no way Buffalo let’s off the gas in Buffalo against them after 25 years of humiliations, especially if the bye is on the line.
So that leaves Cleveland. They’re not a good team this year and barely beat a completely different Steelers team earlier this year. This time they’re in Pittsburgh with the playoffs on the line. If Pittsburgh wants it it’s likely there for them to take it. It’s all up to them.
Seriously, when I gave up this thread for dead Pittsburgh was a house afire, nothing was going right and there was little hope. How things have changed. This may be the gutsiest Steelers team I’ve ever seen to fight all the way back to this from where they were.
Right now on Ladbrokes Bills are 1/4 and Dolphins are 8/15. I’m amazed at the latter given the QB situation. Though I guess the Jets QB situation is a dumpster fire as well.
That’s why I’ve been absent all year. I had no hope and was privately hoping for a tank job to get a top pick. But I still watched every game and saw the improvements. Now, even if they don’t make the playoffs, I just want them to win to maintain the over .500 record.
I haven’t been here all year, but I’m glad to see Airman_Doors still here. I’m glad I was able to meet you and several others at Gettysdope. I would love to see the Steelers in the postseason, and getting Tomlin back on track for his hall of fame record and career. Maybe Pickett is the true heir to the Roethlisberger throne.
Like I said, the freaking Jets. SMH
I have to say, after this I wish bad things for the Steelers.
Poorly thought out, no class.
Yeah, you were right. Remember when the Jets were contenders? They couldn’t even beat a low round rookie starting his second game whose team only put up 3 field goals.
All the same, while I’m disappointed, it’s not soul crushing. Truth is, if you look at the “expert” predictions before the season nobody had them winning 9 games. In a year where they had to start all over at QB, they managed a winning record, were in it until the end, finished strong, and found their future.
In addition, they get their best pick in years and, because of Miami’s tampering, the first pick in round 2, so it amounts to 2 first-round picks. They have a lot of needs, but they’re not in cap hell anymore and they’re super young. Add some offensive line help and get a solid cornerback and they’ll be fighting for the division next year.
It’s been a wild ride. They’re a loooong way from 2-6 in November. I hoped they’d sneak in, but it wasn’t to be. Next year they won’t have to sneak in.
Totally. I’m out now watching SNF proudly wearing my John Stallworth jersey and Steelers hat for the last time until next season. To me, Pickett is still a big question mark, but he does seem to have a bit of a clutch gene, which helps. Thanks for the update on the draft, as I wasn’t aware of it. Yeah, pretty good to have the 2 early picks.
Living in Jets/Giants country, I’ve had quite a few of my Jets fan friends apologize today. But I’m mostly pissed at Salah. You’d think that once Flacco couldn’t move the ball, he’d give the kid Wilson (who they claim to still believe in) one more chance to make a positive statement.
Yeah, I saw that and was like WTF. Totally tone deaf.
I said exactly the same thing. Completely out of line. You just can’t do that, not this week.
