The stuff we never learned

We have this thread from time to time.

We learn so many things from our parents or grandparents but I thought it would be fun to tell about things we never learned from them.

I never learned to make home made pie crust. My mother made them every year for Thanksgiving but I never learned how to do it.

I never learned to change a tire.

I never learned to change the oil in my car.

I never learned to make dried flower arrangements or work with silica gel. My mom did these all the time.

I never learned how to make a ‘good’ Brandy Alexander. My mom made some good ones.

I never learn how to sew my own clothes or even repair for that matter. Replacing a button is about all I can do. My mother and my aunt can make their own clothes. Hell my aunt made homemade Barbie clothes.

I never learned how to develop my own film. Both of my parents knew how. My dad had a lab in the basement. All I remember about it weas an enlarger (a machine), developer (liquid stuff) and a red light bulb.

I can’t grow shit even though my grandmother had tons of plants and I think all she did was throw some water at them every now and then.

I never learned to use a saw of any kind. Both my dad and my grandfather had them and made wood and metal crafts. Table saws, routers, lathes etc.

I never made a model. My dad made tons of them. Mostly minatures.

I never learned how to drive stick. Both my parents know how.

What exactly would your mom do with silica gel, other than not eat it?

You know now that you ask it was not what she made with it. She used that to dry flowers.

She used some other “stuff” to make these hard clear objects that she suspended stuff in. I have no clue now what it is called.

I guess that is because I never learned. :stuck_out_tongue:

I never learned to make the PERFECT fried chicken - my Grandma’s was the very best I’ve ever tasted and I wish I had watched her more carefully in the kitchen.

My fried chicken is good, but I just can’t find that special something she did.

My parents are still around, and I can’t think of anything they do that I want to learn and haven’t*. Grandparents, though…I was going to learn to quilt with my Gran, then I went and got married and moved to another town. I’d love if my Gramps could have taught me to weld, but I didn’t get interested until years after his death. I guess Daddy could teach me, but I just don’t have the time right now.
