You appear to believe that “Appalackey’s” are both inbred and racist. Even if that were true, why would there be a link between inbreeding and racism in a place thousands of miles from Appalachia? Or am I confused here – perhaps you are referring to a completely different group of people: the “Appalackey’s” from Appalackia. Is that anywhere near Yoknapatawpha County?
Also, how did you find racism if it was hidden? Perhaps you were soliciting donations for the local chapter of the Audubon Society and as a nice old lady opened her change purse, you caught a glimpse over her shoulder of a portrait of George Lincoln Rockwell hanging on her parlor wall. Or maybe you just have a vivid imagination.
Come to think of it, if racism is hidden, then who cares? If it’s hidden, then it’s either not affecting people, or is so subtle that nobody knows it. Only someone with an unnatural interest in the inner beliefs of others would worry about “hidden racism.”
