Many years ago, I ended up in charge of a goldfish. My landlady earned money on the side by cleaning up summer renters’ apartments come Labor Day, and some idiot(s) had simply left it in its bowl to starve/freeze (versus a toilet flush mercy killing). The landlady had 2 cats, so …
Little guy was around for years afterward. Hope the renter(s) suffered a dissimilar fate …
What do you think of divorce? What about mothers who give up their child for adoption?
I can think of lots of good reasons to rehome an animal. And having adopted a few such animals, I know that they typically do fine in their new home, after a period of getting used to it.
Leaving a pet to starve in the basement on the other hand… No, I can’t think of any decent reason to do that.
So you genuinely believe that it’s better that the dog be miserable living in an environment that’s not the right fit than move to live somewhere that is, just because it means living with different humans?
Yeah, because that’s the same thing. /sarcasm
You say that, but it’s contradicted by the sentence before it.
You do get that things change, right? Ever think that maybe there’s more to the story that’s not being shared because the guy has 0 obligation to do so?
Good for you. But here’s a little hint: Look at the guy’s picture on FB. Now look in a mirror. If they look completely different, it’s because you’re two different people.
I doubt he cares.
You are, huh?
We got my dog from a breeder at 1 year old because she didn’t get along with some of the other dogs & had health issues.
After about 6 months, we needed to board her for a few days, so we figured we’d use the breeder–her services were cheap and the dog was familiar with the environment.
The dog showed 0 signs of recognizing the woman or the house, despite spending more time with her than with us.
Dogs are not people. All breeds (and even individual dogs) are different, but many are “out of sight, out of mind”. They generally adjust fairly quickly to new environments, and, once they do, tend to forget the old ones.
So if selfish is wanting the dog to have a good life in an environment conducive to such, what’s it called when you insist that the dog should be miserable just so it gets to live with the same human?
This is the stupidest comment yet.
You literally just said that there’s no reasonable, rational explanation that a dog in a shelter should be adopted, as that is a major example of rehoming.
But I suppose it kind of answers my above question. In your mind: happy dog with new loving family < miserable dog with same family
