I’m trying to get an idea on what sort of political bias The Telegraph has. It’s a British publication so I’m not real familiar with it. Based on just one headline alone, I’m guessing it’s a right wing rag with nonexistent journalistic standards, but don’t want to jump to any conclusions based on the small sample.
There’s the famous joke (quoted in Yes, Minister):
HACKER: Don’t tell me about the press. I know exactly who reads the papers. The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country. The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country. The Times is read by the people who actually do run the country. The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country. The Financial Times is read by people who own the country. The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country. And The Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is . HUMPHREY: Prime Minister, what about people who read The Sun? BERNARD: Sun readers don’t care who runs the country as long as she’s got big tits.
So presumably the Telegraph reader (used to?) think England was run by commies.
But it used to be regarded as a ‘serious’ paper, up there with the Times.
I haven’t read an issue for a long time, so I can’t comment on its current journalistic standards?
I can’t remember the detail of this (much less a cite) but something I read recently which commented on a recent (-ish) change of ownership which had resulted in a significant lowering of quality.
I’ll see if I can dig out what I was reading.
And yes, it is very right-leaning.

ETA it appears that a sale is happening at the moment, but that isn’t what I was thinking of.
It always used to be thought of as the unofficial “house journal” where the Tories and the Sir Herbert Gussetts talked among themselves , as the Guardian is for the LibDems, Labour and further left. (Which is not to say that their actual news reporting is/was inaccurate or propagandistic).
But my understanding is that in more recent times it was pushed towards rather more gossip and celebrity “news”. Not that I have actually checked for myself, but its last owners were a rum bunch.
When I was growing up, I always thought of it as right wing but respected. Those days are long gone, it’s a right wing joke these days. The OP got it right first time.
