I look pretty young too (I’m about to be 28 and still get carded for cigs, lotto, and liquor) so I make sure to always carry ID.
I went to see an R-Rate movie with my husband (for cryin’ out loud). Well he has to use the restroom while we’re waiting so off he goes and I get to the front for my ticket.
“2 adults, please”, I say.
“ID?”, ask the box office A-hole.
I produce proper ID and then he asks, “Where’s the other person?”
:confused:
Does it freakin’ matter? I’m an adult trying to buy 2 adult tickets.
I tried to reason with him that:

  1. I was trying to buy 2 adult tickets, not student or senior or any other type of discount ticket, so not trying to rip anyone that could be prevented by ID’ing us.
  2. If my companion WAS under 18, wouldn’t I be the “legal gaurdian” taking him to see the movie??

He refused to sell me both tickets until my husband showed up and gave him his ID.
Now that I think about it, I should’ve called the manager out on him. He was such a jerk about it the whole time. :rolleyes:

I don’t know what theaters’ rules for carding people generally are, since it’s not a legal requirement, but when I was a supermarket cashier, I think the rule for asking for ID was that if the person looked under 27, you were supposed to ask. I forget whether that was for beer or cigarettes, though, and whether it was a law or just a CYA policy.

Yeah, I do think you look a bit young for 19, but I’m 19 and also look a bit young. It’s no big deal if you don’t let it get to you. I mean, I know guys our age who are starting to go bald, so given that alternative, I’ll take apparent youth any day. BTW, how do you dress when going out to the movies? Maybe a dressier wardrobe could help give the appearance of adulthood.
