The toes, they continue to twinkle

Just took my first tap class in more than six years (broke my ankle, then … well, it was a changing kaleidoscope of reasons, mixing logistics and finance).

I am grinning from ear to ear – my feet still remember how to do just a crazy amount of stuff. I’m rusty as hell, of course, but I am not starting from scratch again. Guess the 10 or 15 years of lessons I had prior to that had not totally dissolved.

So much fun! I’m so glad to be starting up with it again! It was so great to see my teacher, who’s a total sweetheart!

I grew up loving Gene Kelly and having such a crush on Gregory Hines <3 The closest I’ve seen to live tap as an adult, though, is Stomp >.<

Is it an artform still alive and well? 'cause it can be really amazing. I am glad you have got back into it

twickster’s twinkling toes touch tapdance table, turns twitterpated teens to tumble.

Tap is alive and well, though far from mainstream. Big cities will have live performances available from time to time – even small towns will be teaching it in the dance schools, though.

As a fellow musicals lover, I finally decided as an adult I wanted to learn, and took lessons for (as I said in the OP) 10 or 15 years before I broke my ankle and then got sidetracked by other elements in my life. It is incredibly fun to do, and I’m so glad I decided to get back to it.

Any trouble getting the jackboots on and off?

Is it something an adult can go and learn, or are most of the classes for little kids?

Some places have adults-only beginning classes; call around and see what’s available. My very first class was at a community arts center and there was me, another adult, and a couple of kids around 8 or so. I switched to the dance school I still attend a year later, where, in 15 years of lessons, I don’t think I’ve ever been in an all-adult class. I’ve mostly been in the advanced class, though, so the “kids” are generally teens. Doesn’t bother me.

I’ve got to ask. Did you break your ankle while tap dancing?

Heh. Utterly unrelated – I broke my ankle walking down the street. (Well, walking down a steep sidewalk, when I hit a patch of ice – whoopsie!)

About 1:30 in - Twickster’s secret life as a dance instructor.

I thought eyes twinkle and toes curl? Hmmm, can’t find the update in the manual …

You’re just out of touch. Pretty gals have had curly eyes since at least 1880.
