I saw an interview of the film’s proder , with several respected biblical scholars and archaeologists. Their reaction to the film’s conclusions was pretty negative. Anyway, I have a few qustions:
(1) were the bones founs in the ossuaries radiocarbon dated? Seems to me that would be a valuable clue.
(2) the inscriptions on the boxes: they looked very obscure-wouldn’t a 1st century stonemason be a bit more careful making inscriptions?
(3) suppose Jesus did have a family: would he have been rich enough to afford a tomb?
(4) is there any real proof that the inscriptions are geniune? Or could have they been faked easily?
He himself, probably not. However, the gospels say that Joseph of Arimathea took the body and had it buried in a tomb.
- The Gospels actually are unclear about JC’s socio-economic status. His “father” Joseph could have been a strugglng artisan, or he could have started a thriving construction business, with JC & his four brothers continuing the work. Add that to the fact that they claimed to be Davidic aristocracy. JC’s statements about having “no place to lay his head” in context was after he was refused lodging in Samaria when they found he was going to Judea, not that he literally had no home. And his Mom was
connected by family to the Priesthood through her “kinswoman” Elizabeth. AND,
according to lore, her uncle or brother was Joseph of Arimathea.
On the other hand, why would the family tomb be in Jerusalem, when their main base of operations was in Galilee?
This is my big beef, which I’ve yet to hear anyone try to explain. All those calculations about how many people in Jerusalem could have had relatives with those names are a farcical waste of time, because Jesus’ family did not live in Jerusalem.
