I’ve got the game on my laptop and my desktop and it says it supports cloud saves but I can’t access the same characters across the two. I have Cloud Sync enabled in Steam but I don’t use this program much so I’m not sure I’m doing it right.
Do I have to click something in the game or in Steam every time I finish playing in order for my saves to sync between them?
I’m really liking this game. I chose to play on Veteran mode, which I think was a wise choice. I remember playing the original Torchlight on Normal mode and it was a cakewalk.
The only major problem I’ve found with the game so far is that the screen is always so busy. Everything is giant and flashy and there’s so much of it - it’s sometimes difficult to see what’s going on. There are times when I’m trying to have my character run away from a group of monsters but can’t because there are very few “safe” areas to click on the screen. Instead of running, my character just punches something in the face that I never even knew was there because it was blocked by a larger monster or some flashy special effect.
Another issue is the see-through wall effect when your character is under level geometry. It is next to useless since there is no way to see your attack or who/what you are hitting or if you are even hitting at all.
I’ve started around 10 characters now and keep abandoning them when I realize that the build won’t work like I want it to. I’ve taken to copying builds off the Runic forums.
So far my favorite is still probably the Prismatic Blast embermage. PB works a lot better than Magma, IMO-- much less likely to get blocked by an obstacle or rise in the terrain. Later in the game, though, seems like mages die pretty easy. One mission with a lot of floor traps killed my mage maybe 5 times. I dropped mages after that and started looking at engineers again.
What with the crazy traps and some other unexpected deaths, I don’t think I’ll be going hardcore anytime soon. Even in SC I’m re-rolling and rerunning areas. Not so much to farm items-- I have those other characters with full inventories-- but for experience and fame. Even over-leveled I nearly died to a boss a little while ago. This build is pretty weak early on and depends on Seismic Slam plus whatever you can get from your weapon for damage.
I’m usually playing with two other players - I’m the engi tank, my GF is a frost/elec mage, her sister a shotgun outlander, very fond of the shadowling ammo. Everybody has pet spells on their pets.
I’ve pretty much given up on knowing what’s going on in battle. I’m sure I’m autoattacking something, and sometimes I pop my bubble because I have the charge and my health isn’t topped up, but any strategery or fire focusing is pretty much dead in the water due to the constant, massive effects and NPC clutter
True. I am hoping that there’s a mod that cuts down on the glitter. I’m not really sure what’s the problem, but it seems that a lot of effects have no transparency and are just gratuitously bright.
Oh, there’s a couple of tricks for movement. If you hold CTRL, it stops you from auto-moving to close in with enemy for auto-attack or using a skill. Holding down ` (next to 1 key at the top) allow you to force movement.
I was hoping D3 would scratch my itch for a dungeon hack and slash, but it was terribly flawed so I rush out to pick this up. I’ve enjoyed it so far - definitely has a lot of aspects that make it closer to D2 that D3 screwed up. I will say that the graphics bug me though - I don’t mind the cartoony look (though it wouldn’t be my first choice); but my main problem is its hard to see what’s going on the screen - everything looks the same.
Still, the loot and varied character builds are definitely giving me everything I want.
