The Total Perspective Vortex

Personally, I think that this perspective gives life more meaning. All of these individual particles, all of them incredibly simple, and all following such simple rules for their interactions, and yet, they’re arranged in such intricate complexity that something like us can exist. I mean, I’m not even talking about the existence of life, or self-mobile life, or consciousness (though of course, those are all even more incredible)… Just the existence of solid matter is something of a miracle.

You sure?

There is a fundamental inter-connectedness of all things. The universe is the sum of complex mathematical, or theological as you see fit, equations that are running their course.

Call it the ‘butterfly effect’ or the ‘not a sparrow falls’ effect, depending upon your point of view. Although the individual componants of the vast equation cannot understand or comprehend the purpose, each particle down to the quantum level, and perhaps beyond, participates in the result.

The worm wishes to know the nature of dirt. Why is there so much? Why is it so good? Why has it been provided for me? The worm is incapable of understanding that both the worm and the dirt are intregal and important to the equation’s result, and at the same time insignificant. The dirt plays an important role in the existance of the worm, the worm helps create the dirt, both exist for the plants who know nothing of the value of the worm or the dirt. The plants are reaching toward the light, it’s focus, and the source of that light is something that the plant cannot even begin to understand.

And so it goes.

Do not worry about the time of your life being short, time is a measure of distance not a measure of duration. In some direction there still exists every moment that you have experienced.

You peed your pants on the first day of school. You are still peeing your pants on the first day of school. You have always, and will always pee your pants on the first day of school. It is part of the basic fabric of the universe. And quite necessary to the equation.

So lighten up on yourself.

Actually I’m pretty sure I could have summarized my opinions on this subject (the worth and meaning of life) with a snippet from Ogre’s very eloquent post, so I’ll do so here.
